Merc guys - do you see prices moving?

I just lost an auction for a 1936 MS67 coin where an old blue sheet is $60 and the Price Guide is $75. With two minutes left the auction was at 78.77 and I figured if I bid 101.50, that I would win it at about $90. The winning bid was $111.27 and the bidder had bid higher as the was the next increment over the last highest bid of 108.77.
It was a decent coin in an old holder, so I don't think it was anything special. The winning bidder had zero feedback, so maybe it was a newbie. There has been a lot of buying activity lately, so what do you think, are prices moving or is this an anomaly?

I have noticed the same thing.
It seems like one guy is bidding on a lot of mercs.
He could have picked a different series lol.

I have found that they have moved a small amount on the 65's and lower, but anything above that, it has ran the scale from one end to the other, but do tend to run higher than normal, and I think , IMO, we can contribute this move to individuals seeking the finer sets for the Registries. I may be wrong, but that is the way I see it. I personally like the move toward the higher coins, that does leave me and people like me a chance to gain the 63's, 64's and 65's, which is all I ever set out to get in the first place. My original goal was to put together a perfect MS65FB set, and maybe one of these days, I can upgrade the earlier half of my set. (pipe dream I'm sure). Well, I have rambled enough I'm sure, thanks for the thread.

Deep Coin: Some of the Higher Grade 30's and 40's Dimes have been going for insane prices. Most seem to be going to Bidders with little or no Feedback. The Bidders Have to be newer collectors because I am sure a established Dealer would not pay the prices these coins have been going for.
IMO Great buys on Early Date Mercs still exist. Along with Great Buys I don't think alot of people relize how hard it is to find some of the So-Called Common Dates.

I have been paying a few dollars above (no more then $8) to a few dollars under blue sheet. I know for a fact thats a fair price. When I was at the FUN & pull out a blue sheet and you start hearing the dealers grumble as there prices where more like PCGS prices (and that is WAY OVER PRICED). So for now I know ebay is much better way to go.
And hell if I can be paying close to what dealers are paying thats fine by me
I have noticed a few coins that do sell well below even blue sheet, 1916 66FB is one (along with many others).... can be had for WELL under blue sheet. I'm not sure why but the trend is like $75 under the blue sheet on ebay at least.

to submit more coins, and prices will drop back a bit.

I am pretty much focused on 67 and 66s, so I dont know how many of those will be made from the BU rolls you speak of. I do believe someone had sent in a bunch of Mercs for grading recently, as I noticed quite a few of the same date being auctioned on eBay. I dont remember the exact date, somewhere in the early 40s as I recall.
There are still bargains to be found, but the interest level is up as well. That is a double edged sword for us. Our collections become worth more, but adding and upgrading also becomes more expensive. (I am the master of the obvious).
I used to visit a dealer back in the late '60's-early 70's that had 20 -30 rolls of most dates from the '40's. That's a LOT of coins, and I'm sure there were lots of high grades in them. I was just a kid back then, but I managed to buy a roll of '45-P's for $30. That date was already recognized as a rare one with full bands, and none of the coins in my roll came close. It probably would have been smarter to buy a roll of "D" mint coins that would have some FB's.
I have the all the dates from 1937-45 raw, and didn't think it would be worth it to have them slabbed, but with the prices they're bringing, I'll be re-thinking that strategy. I may try to get to the safe deposit box this weekend to look them over and decide whether I want to spend more to slab them than what I paid for them in the first place. Guess I should just think of it as doing my share to keep PCGS solvent.

A lot of ebay buyers purposely get new ID's to buy with a (0) feedback hoping no one else will buy. Called who wants to buy THAT coin if only a newbie is bidding on it. LOL
I know, I have done it as well.
