Roosevelt Sell-Off

Been reading lots of posts about PCGS collectors selling off their Clad Roosevelt sets, but cant figure out why? Has it just been personal decisions for each collector or am I missing something? Is anyone making sales in the silver series also?

Just an observation - buying, building, and selling of sets is cyclical in nature for the majority of collectors; but there are also those who persevere for many years to achieve. Different strokes for different folks!

From a post of mine on another thread.

<< <i>It's no secret that clad Roosevelts are hot right now, with the exception of the firesale on teletrade recently, and prices, along with demand for the lower pops are moving up at a nice little pace. And remember this. All through the history of collecting, new sets come from the parts of retired sets. Its a change over, its happened before, and it will happen again. >>

I do want to add that I never got over the brainfart of tossing out the true basic strike coins for the SF's.
To highlight this contemp, no SF coins listed for sale from my set are listed for more than $20.00-$25.00. Proving once again, "WHEN YOU HAVE SF COINS, YOU HAVE NOTHING". Now business strikes?? Oh they are proving to sell quite nicely. image

Activity in an area is usually indicative of increasing demand. When things
are selling cheaply there is usually little demand and little activity.

Moderns have been the red headed step children of numismatics for nearly
half a century and clad dimes have been the red headed step children of
moderns just as long. They are the last of the moderns to become apprec-
iated though I always figured it would be the quarters.

Gem dimes are almost "common" compared to the other denominations and
unlike the other denominations there aren't any extremely tough dates. This
allows them to be collected more widely but for many years it has stifled in-
terest in the series. The fact that many of these are elusive in the highest
grades was not readily apparent since people weren't paying attention to
    them.

I think the potential here is still quite good but they are small coins and more
the province of the young than those of us with older eyes.
