Does the USPS have a "better" tracking system than the one online?

Am worried about a simple Express mail envelope that went from the north side of chicago to downtown chicago. Didn't make it overnight as was quoted by the postal employee who processed it at my PO. Tracking simply says "processed".

If I go to my local PO this morning, will they have better tracking information - like FedEx ("on truck for delivery" or something)? Or is the online as good as it gets?

It is truly time sensitive as it contains some tickets.

They do have an internal tracking system too, how detailed it is I don't know. Many times when a next day is going "downtown" it gets dropped in a building's mail room or a company "box". If this has happened then the PO has done it's job and it is up to the mailroom or the business's pick up person to do their job. Another thing that may have happened is that the envelope needs a signature, if they tried to deliver and left a pick up slip then again, they did their job, they are not at fault if no one is there.

Try the PO, it can't hurt. The blue insurance forms can't be tracked anywhere except the PO, they do store more info than you can access. Good luck, hopefully all is OK.

    Thanks GUH.

I should add that is was shipped to a good hotel - definitely always somebody on duty to sign for deliveries.

Probably signed for and stuck in a box until they happen to see the customer. Or a message was left on his room phone and he hasn't picked it up yet etc..

Sounds like the PO probably did their job, you are probably waiting on the hotel staff and the customer's efforts now. Good luck!

I would imagine if signed for by hotel staff the tracking would read "delivered" not "processed" though (?).

    Here is what I get:

    << <i>Status: Processed

Your item was processed and left our CHICAGO, IL 60680 facility on September 29, 2008. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. >>

edit: this message was up at about 8:30 a.m. yesterday and has not changed since.

I still have some PSA orders from a couple years ago that read this way, even though they were signed for. They are not always through when scanning etc.
Try the buyer, then the PO. Someone should have an answer.
  • If it says processing it has not been delivered at all. Or if it has, they made a mistake and failed to scan it as that. This could mean serious problems if this was a sale and Paypal was involved.
