Caution on these Type 2 IKE's on eBay

19Lyds19Lyds Posts: 26,475 ✭✭✭✭
In this auction, the seller is selling 5 Type 2 CVn Clad 1972 Type 2 IKEs yet the photo he shows for the reverse is of a proof coin.

He also stole this fella's photograph of the obverse.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The name is LEE!

Also he uses terminology such as: "and they all have what I would consider to be very high relief" which would make it difficult to say you did not get the coins described.

Does not appear to be worth bidding on unless you are really into longshots.

Thanks for the "heads up" Lee, great dective work. Not for nothing, but I thought that I'd ask the seller a question:

"Do you have pics(scans) of YOUR coins? They should all look like RDV-002 in the following link: http://varietyvista.com/Eisenhower Dollar RDV Changes.htm Your added pic of the rev is of a proof coin and ALL 1972S(PF and Unc) are type 2's. John"

No, I don't expect an answer, but figured that I'd make his day.... By the way, it appears that the "borrowed" obv pic has a Type 3 rev.

John, I asked the seller last night if he was sure his five Ikes were TYPE 2 since the obverse picture was "borrowed" and the little picture of the Earth was from a proof Ike. No response so I axed my modest snipe. Rob

Just received this email from the seller:

    "Dear doctortrader,

No I am not sure. As stated, I am not a coin grader. The reverse is a picture I found on the internet. I was not able to get a close picture of the coin that I have. Which is why the picture was added late. Thank you for your question."

I'll offer him some fatherly advice about selling coinsimage

"Hello noskacj - Excuse me for offering uninvited advice (and believe me I would not be taking this time and trouble had you not responded honestly to my question!):
    1. On ebay don't ever describe an item as something specific unless you're sure it is that something. I'm an Ike nut and a potential customer and Ike nuts have no tolerance for sellers who tend to get loose with "T2" because it is a valuable Ike: don't you be part of that crowd!
    2. Don't use other people's photos, ever, unless you get permission first and site the source, just common sense. A bunch of us on various forums know the source of your obverse picture because we track T2's listed on ebay. It's the kind of obvious ebay infraction that often gets reported to ebay because it is so easy to prove. Rob"

I got an answer too Rob, but my response wasn't as kind:

"Mighty strange answer.... (1) I ask if the reverses look like RDV-002 on link: http://varietyvista.com/Eisenhower Dollar RDV Changes.htm and you didn't answer.... (2) I ask for pics(scans) of your coins, and you give me a Song and Dance about your church raising $$.... My take is that selling something that is NOT as described is fraud.... Your ad says that YOU consider them to be be very high relief, yet your answer here says that someone else attributed the pieces.... Either the pieces are or aren't high relief Type 2's. John"

John, good cop, bad cop? Do you think we got through to him? Probably a waste of time but I don't mind trying to help clean up some of the T2 nonesense on ebay. Rob

    Response I received:

Reported hell... Who are you the EBAY Police? I have done nothing wrong! Mind your own business. You are probably so "small" to the world you have to get your jolly?s off of making people on eBay think you are something "big"

Yeah, that's my take too Lee; just another eBay scam artist. Nice try TexasNationals, but I think that eBay "round-files" 99% of the reports(mine never get addressed); all they seem to care about is their bottom line.

Yep,...like Lee said, his response speaks volumes!
Some one must have reported it and eBay actually canceled the auction!image

    Woohoo!

I reported it yesterday and even emailed the fella he stole the picture from but I never expected that it would get cancelled which is why I posted it here for my friends!

I remember one about 8 months or so back that I submitted numerous reports on but they totally ignored it. I then emailed the buyer to find out if actually received anything which he did not. Eventually he got his money back and the scammer got NARUed.
