    You can tell she was a handsome craft.

    In some of our local hotels and restaurants, there are old photos of the Emmeline and the Hessie and other local steamers, which used to ferry folks out to the barrier islands here in the late 1800s. Those sidewheelers had something of the look of that boat (though I realize it isn't a sidewheeler).

    They went the way of the dinosaurs, and ever since 1924 you can drive out to St. Simons Island on a causeway instead of taking the boat.

    (Edited to correct the usual 1 AM typing. *yawn*)
