That's what I was thinking before I saw your reply. I believe the PSA 7 equivalent is an SGC 84.

I think it may come back trimmed. I don't like the left side.

I hate to agree but it does in my opinion look trimmed. I'd have to see the card in person to be 100% sure, but if there is any wear at all on that card, and from the scan it doesn't look like a mint card, then for sure those corners are not natural. Sorry again - I hope I'm wrong.

As you look at card on screen it's wider at the top than the bottom. The left edge shows a tilted cut with the top border wider than at the bottom. The right edge shows no tilted cut with the top and bottom borders equal.

Recently, someone on here posted their opinion that SGC is on the same credibility level as PSA.

Anyone have additional thoughts on that?

I think they are on the same CREDIBILITY level...however their standards differ - particularly on centering.

I would say they are actually better on pre-war stuff. At least that's what I've been told by pretty much anyone that collects pre-war cards. So yes. I'd say they are just as good.

I think the card is trimmed on the left side or bottom, based on your scan.

I clearly stated "I hope I'm wrong" and I'm glad the buyer made out great.

Hope the buyer posts a scan of the SGC card when available.

well, the card was pulled from the population report.. i emailed to find out why, and in the "Proofing" stage it was rejected due to trimming on the right side near the names... but i did confirm the Mike Kelly is a 30 Good.

I never saw this thread originally...that's a heck of a trim job, but the looking at the back, it's more obvious. Bummer.

Sorry for the result - It of course would have been a nice score.

Bottom line - You learn from it and whenever you see a card such as this on ebay or anywhere, the question has to be asked why the card isn't already in a PSA or SGC holder whereby the seller would get many hundreds of dollars more for the card. You didn't post the auction or seller unless I missed it, but you should analyze the seller before bothering to even analyze the scan - the sellers intentions and tendencies usually say much if not all of what you need to know.

    Congrats on the Carlton!
I personally like SGC for vintage stuff, they seem to be a bit more lenient on centering, but I think tougher on corners and edges.

Damn sorry to hear that. maybe resubmit it?

To PSA, SGC could be wrong.

Steve - My guess is that it likely already had been submitted to PSA by the seller.
