"Frosty" Peace Dollars (Why are they?)

Why do mint state Peace Dollars have that frost on them? I do like it, but I wondered why this is seen more in the Peace series. If a Peace coin is dipped, will it ever regain this trait? I hope not!
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.

  • My guess is that is how the mint prepared the dies. Probably that and the planchets they used. They tone nothing like Morgan Dollars. Its all in the prep.

I believe that a lot of the frostiness of one particular coin over another has a lot to do with the actual design elements of the coin which dictates the metal flow as the piece is coined.

Each design is unique in its own way and produces its own unique level of mint luster.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
