Help on Token Identification please

I attributed approx 100 Merchant Tokens over the last week.

I'm now in need of attributing and valueing just as many Patriotic Tokens, kinda at least. It looks like the hardest work has been done for me. They each have both dies identified on the 2x2's. I have done extensive spot checks againt Rulau's book "United States Tokens 17010-1900", I also have Bryon Kanzinger book "Civil War Token Collectors Guide" that lists a value for each of the die marraiges.

I'm stuck though because Rulau's book only list one die without it's varities. Ex. 64/362. Die 64 is an R-4, while die 362 is R-2. The explanation on pg 521 is confusing to me. Which die in this example do I base the value on ? His charts only have 1 die each priced.

Also, when I look at Kanzinger book under 64/362, there is a 362a, 362b and 362d. What other reference do I need to determine which 362 varity I have. I assume a Fuld book, but which one ?

Thanks a bunch for your help.

The individual dies are not as significant on their own as they are by obv/rev marriage. The R rating should only apply to a particular die marriage and composition. The suffixes that you are referring to denote composition in the order as listed by Fuld, with a usually denoting Copper. You'll have better results attributing patriotics with Fuld. Try "PATRIOTIC CIVIL WAR TOKENS", Fulds. Newest CWTS edition, all varieties pictured, 1200 photos, more. Hard-Bound 2006, 435p. $35.00 which can be found here
