Penny Sleeves???

Does anyone else still use the Penny Sleeves before toploaders? I've run into a lot of people who do not anymore.

always, why wouldnt you? without a sleeve the toploader allows the cards to move....if you want to go for the best casing I am starting to believe in the cases with the corners cut out..mimic of a graded holder.

I've been told that people don't want to damage the cards by getting them into sleeves. I was at a show yesterday and a few of the higher end dealers DID NOT use them.
I do. But I'm loading some of my 1972 baseball and having a HECK of a time, skimmed a couple of the bottom boarders.
  • If you cut the corners of the penny sleeves at an angle before inserting the cards, it drastically reduces the chances of damaging the corners or bottom edges.

    Always.

Thanks LSU. I put both index fingers in and pull just a bit and slip the cards in much easier. The plastic usually goes back to "normal size" in few seconds.
I've never tried the angle corner cut.

more than the angle cut corner.. just slit the seam off down about a half inch and you are golden...just trim the welded edge off so you don't have to deal with excess.

  • I think some of the ones that don't use the Card Saver I instead of a toploader... that way the card doesn't move around.
  • I also use my pocket knife to slit the penny sleeves down one side at about half an inch. I haven't damaged a corner or edge in ages since I started doing this.

Always use them. I cut the top corner too. Much easier.

folding the card in half makes putting them in the sleeves much easier

    Side-to-side or top-to-bottom?

Then it wouldn't be folding it in half.
