1975 Topps Mini Break and Grade, Good or Bad Choice?

i asked this morning what i should spend my $45 on at BBCE.. one of the suggestions was a a 1975 Topps mini pack.. to home for a centered low pop card to resale..

i like that idea, but i am thinking of saving and getting the box for $1450. i know some here have busted a lot of 1975 Topps mini.. was it a good choice to rip and grade?

what is your experience on 1975 mini unopened?

You are buying the experience, not the cards.

Not much chance at profit, the centering on minis is crappy at best. I bought a pack, but it's only to look at.

centering was not that great on the case rip we did on the boards.

    Thanks,

You have to evaluate the box on the first 3 or 4 packs to see how the centering is. If its REAL bad then grade the packs and resell possibly. If the centering is so bad and you get 1/3 or so centered, I would take the chance and crack! It's a fun break, lots of good rookies and tons of HOFers. It's fun to try a pack here and there though. Ive done it 4-5 times.
  • I agree with Yankeeno7. If you're going to spend that kind of money on a box, be prepared not to rip the whole thing. 9 out of 10 times I think you'll find the centering in any given box to be terrible all the way through . . . not that I've done it myself. Just check out the Mini Rip thread and the Mini Set thread.

That said, I buy a couple packs now and then and it is a blast to rip em open.
  • I would use the $1450 that you save up and diversify. That's what I'm doing with my $2k that I'm spending on cases. I've purchased a few cases and a bunch of single boxes of different years. It's more for the fun/experience than for profit for me.

Very high risk endeavor but if you're lucky enough to get a run of packs with well centered cards you've hit the gold mine as there are few issues that offer as many high dollar pulls (stars and low pop commons) as this one for the money. (A single low pop PSA 9 common will pay for several packs at least.) Trouble is, as mentioned above, the centering for 75 minis is notoriously bad, and it's not uncommon to go through a pack and not find a single gradeable card.

Edit: You can usually get a decent idea of the centering if the card on back shows through the wrapper. If the baseball is positioned very low on the card, chances are that all the cards in that pack will be OC T/B.
