Did IHC's come in Rolls?

Serious question. Say in 1895 someone went to the bank to get some cents. Would they have been given a paper-wrapped roll of 50?

I suspect not but I do not know. Anyone?

this should be make for an interesting thread

i'd think banks got indian cents by the bag

some banks wrapped their own rolls...not like paper rolls we know of...these were merely wrapped in paper

my grandmother in desoto missouri had one such roll that all i remember as like a 6 or 8 year old was that...the paper crumbled off exposing all bright red indians

As far as the coins themselves, there have been full 50-piece rolls that have appeared on the market, mostly from the 1900's. As to their original packaging, I don't recall ever seeing an "original" roll of Indian cents with undeniably original packaging from any year. There was a roll which Maine dealer Norm Pullen got a few years ago. I only saw it after it was slabbed by NGC. I think it sold for well over $100,000. I don't think he had the original paper it came in from 1895.

<<<my grandmother in desoto missouri had one such roll that all i remember as like a 6 or 8 year old was that...the paper crumbled off exposing all bright red indians>>>

true story...granny also had a paper from lincolns assaination...a 1909 kellogs corn flakes cereal box in the corner (i have the comic book from that)
but as stated the ihc roll she had...it was in a wood box...i went to pick it up and the paper just crumbled...dayummm did that pop my eyes...helping granny with her coins

grandpa even was a postal clerk in the teens and both of them going through the depression...they saved everything but it wasn't only after the depression as they saved things...from an octangle barrel winchester to a remington falling block...all the columbian exposition stuff...the family stories are jaw dropping...but being we all moved out west

my grandparents holdings were pilfered before my mom could make it back there upon granny passing

but you bet...banks would put 50 in a piece of paper for ya
