<< <i>Um, what part of "make an offer" don't you understand? That means YOU, the potential buyer, get to make an offer. Of course the seller is hoping to get a $trong offer...what's wrong with that!? ....I can't believe the number of people that would rather have the seller dictate the terms of their offer.....very strange. >>
I do most things by ear. I don't really have a set price that I'd like to pay... it's more that if I just hear/see a price that I like, I jump on it.
I guess I'm using both sides of the fence here. I put my price down but I also put in there to make an offer if you feel my price's are high. This has worked out great for me as I have taken up allot of offers here. It gives the buyer the feeling that he got a good deal and I still make a small profit. I have my bottom line price and if the offer is to low I will counter offer. I hate giving a blind offer not knowing what the seller has invested in the coin, I guess more out of the feeling of embarrassment if I'm real low.

I have know problem with the "$XXX OBO" system. Just when it's the "Make me an offer," without any price given at all.
'Make an offer" is OK with me, as a matter of fact it is a daily ocurrance. It may be the future of the real estate market also. There is really nothing wrong with it unless YOU don't know the value of what you are purchasing------------------------------BigE

Make me an offer. Ok....buyer thinking (it's a $1K coin)....I'll offer $600...let's see if the seller is a sucker. That is the only way it should ever be done. Otherwise, seller states his price and we go from there.

Yep, 'make an offer' doesn't bother me either, as long as they get back with you in a timely fashion.
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.

<< <i>Drives me nuts. Give me your price, and we can continue from there. You're the seller. >>
Just give him a low-ball offer and let the negotiations go from there. I've done it and it often works out fine.
The seller needs to state a price or it is over. A buyer should NEVER start the negotiation. Never.
