Not quite junior. There is a guy from one of the 1920's teams that only played one game. His name escapes me right now.But his signature fetches good money becuase of the people trying to assemble autos from the whole team drive the price up.Obscruity(sp?) is just as valuable as fame sometimes. Mike
Expensive 1920s sigs include Tony Lazzeri and Miller Huggins. Both of those go for quite a premium.
In addition, Jack Chesbro comes to mind as an early Yankee HOF'er who died young. His auto would likely go for more than Ruth or Gehrig on a cut, if you can find one (that's not in a Coach's Corner auction)....
correction . a Single signed baseball (SSB) by Thurman Munson fetches anywhere from 12-25 grand .

Here is a list of the yankee hofers... many from the early 1900s may be hard to find, and depending on the bidder and how long they have been looking...
Believe it or not, Urban Shocker, pitcher on the 1927 Yankees is probably the most valuable Yankee autograph. He died in 1928 and is the "white whale" for all 1927 Yankee autograph collectors.
Kevin Keating of Quality Autographs, a respected dealer, has two available at prices of $9,950 and $12,500. While that's very high, even at half the price it's more than Ruth or Gehrig.

I've seen some Lazzeri autographs, but Huggins is ultra rare and worth several thousand just on a scrap of paper. Coincidentally, there is a Huggins payroll check on eBay right now and it's the only one I've ever seen outside of Mastro.

that's just not right >>
It's absolutely not right...very crude in fact...I couldn't help myself.
disclaimer:
James Abbott is a true success story. He should be respected for obstacles he had to overcome, both off the field and on. A true childhood sports hero for me.

Did you see the one in Clean Sweep Auctions? It went for almost 5 grand. Why is the bidding so low on this one? Looks like a chance to pick up one real cheap.
Jack Chesbro autographs are exceptionally rare and valuable.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Used to working on HOF SS Baseballs--Now just '67 Sox Stickers and anything Boston related.

Yeah, probably rarer than Huggins. I don't think I've ever heard of a Chesbro payroll check existing.
