1961 Fleer Walt Bellamy PSA 9

Hello all...I have a 1961 Fleer Walt Bellamy PSA 9. It is a low pop card (1 of 6), but there is no VCP sales, so I have nothing to go by.....would anyone be interested in this card?

Just for laughs, I have to ask: How does it fit in the holder. Does it bounce around or is it tight? image

    How about a picture?

As far as value goes try looking at some other 1/6 9s in the set, at least you'll have a ballpark price.

LOL @ Game Used Hoops! The Bellamy is tight! No moving around on that one, so it definitely wasn't trimmed! (It also didn't get the qualifier that the Wilkens had either - Gosh Darn it!).....I was thinking of $4,000 OBO......I really wish one had sold on VCP so I could get an idea.....I did what you suggested Hoops....and got a multiple 3x SMR.....am I in the ballpark?

Thanks Vito....I caught it! I am a lazy bum who recycles the same basic listing with just switching the names out.....I can't help it though.....when you have 66 cards, you get tired.....thanks!

I know....In older times, Ebay would let you display who the grader was, and what type of grade the card received. I guess they thought we weren't smart enough to fill out that information properly, so they deleted those features. Unfortunately, when you select "SELL A SIMILAR ITEM" feature, you are stuck with that numeric grade system, with no way of removing it.....Ebay does wacky stuff sometimes......I wish they would leave well enough alone....

I have had two offers for $2,000 each

If you're into the card cheaply, ex. graded it from raw yourself, then I would take the $2000. You may never get an offer that nice again.

Another thing that you can do is just end the ebay listing now and relist it with a lower starting bid and let those interested in ity fight it out, you may be pleased what it might bring in an auction style format. A couple guys get caught up in the bidding and BOOM! Check out the "sold" items on ebay of 61 Fleer hoop. Check out PSA 9 & PSA 10, this will give you an idea of how spirited the bidding may get. I haven't looked myself but will shortly. If this set is currently "HOT" it is definately a plus.

Myself, assuming I bought it raw, would save the user names and email addresses of the 2 "offers", then kill the current listing. Relist it at a starting bid of $1999, and then notify the two "offerers" of the auction. Let them know that you don't want to have to decide between the two and that this way it is fair to both of them and you. I wouldn't be surprised if the card goes $2500+ in this format. If their offers of $2K are solid then they probably are at least waiting for a counter offer from you. You rarely get the BEST offer straight out. It kind of works like buying a car from a dealership. Negotiation is usually expected.

BTW, today is a good day to get it done. Start the listing around 10-11 pm EDT on ebay tonight, and let it run 7 days. Sunday night usually brings nice #s on ebay.

Just checked the sold items on ebay, no useful info there.

That is an excellent idea gameusedhoop. I countered both guys, one dropped out, claiming to have bought the card yesterday from bbccardexchange (I emailed Steve but he said that isn't true) for $2,250..so, not quite sure what is up with that....the 2nd ID countered with $2,250. They are different zip codes so not sure if it is multiple ID's for one person or not. I do believe the bidding will get spirited, but I did get this graded raw. The offer is nice, just not sure what this one is worth, due to lack of VCP info. If you notice my Aaron rookie though, the bid is only at $890 on the last day. That is at LEAST a $1,500 card all day long. My 1961 Fleer graded commons are going for pennies on the dollar as well. I am just not 100% convinced that Ebay is the best venue to be selling at right now. Something appears to have happened in the past two weeks - It is like someone turned the switch off. I actually called Robert Edwards and Mastro auctions to enquire about something I have never done before - Consign to a baseball card auction house.....

The card is only "worth" what someone will pay for it. Experienced bidders will snipe auctions, they don't tip their hand. A GAI 7 Aaron just went for $1300+. It went from $1000 to $1353 on the last day with 6 bidders.

The two things that might hurt you a little is the centering of your card and the fact that it is SGC, not PSA. The Set Registry artificially enhances value sometimes.
Be patient grasshopper, you will be rewarded.

Another thing to check on the Bellamy is what do the top 5 active sets on the Registry have. If they all have 9s then it will be tough to get more $$ out of it, if they need the upgrade and are actively buying then you should do better.

Everyone should know that GAI is inferior to SGC. I have found GAI cards to be 1-2 grades overgraded. So I am guessing that Aaron rookie would be a 5.5 or 6 if PSA had it. I personally cracked out two GAI cards.....a Mantle that was a 8.5 (came back a PSA 7), and a Williams 7 (came back a 5 - GAI missed a surface wrinkle)....my personal opinion is that GAI cards are muck.....but you know what they say about opinions.....
