Lets see some wax boxes!

Someone else had asked for this so I figured I'd post it. Just a down and dirty shot with the phone cam
Anyone else collect boxes?

image

PS All are empty except one box. Any guesses?

  • That is very cool.

    My guess 1975 Topps Box!

Thanks for your very generous contest to win a full vintage wax box. image

    I guess 1972.
  • Obviously the 1953 Topps 5 cent box is the one that's full. Either that or the Fleer World Series box, not sure which. The registry is a powerful drug.

Neat stuff, I'm with Nick on the 72's being full

  • Nice collection. The 1964 Topps Giants looks like a full box to me.

I will say the 76 box!!

Why are you guys all guessing the cheap boxes? This is Anthony we're talking about. I heard he once wrote a check and the bank bounced. image
  • StingrayStingray Posts: 8,843 ✭✭✭
Ok, that 71 box looks like it could be full!!
  • GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
Nick, lots of banks bouncing this week!
No one got it yet, the Redman packs were correct but not the one I was thinking of. The Boston Garter box is empty too.
It's a cheapy, and not among the newest ones.

Lets see some more boxes! Someone has got to have some to post.

I don't think I'll post a pic of my ultra-rare 1985-1988 Donruss boxes, people would just go completely ga-ga
  • I've got the 72 being full.

    Yeah!! 88 Donruss!

Or how about 89 Fleer? Arent those almost impossible to find now?
  • Great collection! I will go with the 1956 box as being the one that is full.
Always looking to buy old Minnesota Twins and Vikings memorabilia like Nodders, Photo Pennants, and Photo Buttons.
  • Very impressive clear cam photo. My photo's always come out terrible.
  • Since it's hard to find complete boxes anymore. I buy my packs and boxes then have my employees pack them up in my warehouse. It's fun.

Some of the packs I'll give out for Halloween. The packs are only a penny but last year the kids parents seemed to like them.

  • My 2nd guess was gonna be the 1960 leaf.

Once again, not as nice as Anthony's stuff but here is my 70's display case, the 74 and 76 boxes are half full, John

Sorry for the flash, used my 6 year old daugther's camera

Even if I had the cool stuff shown by jmoran and griffins, I could never display it. My wife would let my kids open it and then my neighbor would laugh at me for crying in my driveway.

I'm the only male in my house (wife, 2 daughters and 2 female cats) so I get one bedroom, it's called Man Land and it's an invite only for females image

I'm waiting until 2089 so I can post a pic of my unopened 1989 Topps box. I figure if the cellophane wrapping can last that long that people might dig seeing it.
  • GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
John- as usual, awesome! It's a much more compelling display than mine, and the way the '70 and '72 boxes are opened up look exactly as they did when I saw them on the shelf as a kid. Cool stuff!

  • Does anyone get the empty boxes from the BBCE group buys? Those would be good for someone's display case.

My guess on the unopened box is the 1970 cello.

Nice boxes Anthony & John. I have a bunch of boxes but they're all 80's stuff and still have cards in them. My oldest is a 79-80 Topps basketball.

    Nice try Donovan. image

Anthony. John et al, very nice displays. Really enjoyed looking at them.
  • Very nice displays guys! I just started collecting packs and boxes, so this is my only box so far. In fact, I just got it today.

I do have a few vintage packs though and here's a '74 to go with the wax box.

the box that was full (I just sent in 8 packs for grading from it) was the '61 Scoops box.

Well, Griffins mentioned Nu Card (Scoops), here is my only vintage box so far...

    image

I bought a lot with 4 graded packs and the box to go along with the graded set I am working on.

I would like to put together a box / pack collection at some point in the future.

    Don't judge me.

  • Great pics.

71/72 topps basketball packs are quite rare. I think they came in 12 count boxes and 24 count. Neat box.

And cool cello packs...R Jackson and Aaron showing.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

I have a 1969 and 1973 football box to fit in somewhere, might have to consolidate the twins greats into one shelf. John

Thanks, the cello packs are props, I had the actual packs graded by PSA and they didn't include the box in their holder as they probably aren't big enough. If your interested, you can see pictures of my PSA graded packs here:

    packs

And yes you are correct, 71/72 basketball packs came in 12 and 24 count boxes, mine is a 24 count. The 12 count boxes came as part of a two box case. Mark Murphy's guide to wax packs has a nice picture of one. I have 2 1971/72 packs, one's a GAI 9 and the other is a GAI 8.5 but they both would cross at a lower grade as they "obtained" a small hole from the gum shifting when GAI packed them poorly shipping them back to me (2003), bast**ds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

interesting that of the 4 formerly GAI graded packs, 2 stayed the same grade, one bumped a half, and one bumped a full grade.

Most of my GAI wax and cello packs were graded about 6 months after they started grading packs, so I'm guessing that was during Paul Wright's time, enough said
