How common is it for collectors to have a personal stash of currency or precious metals as a buffer

SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,603 ✭✭✭✭✭
I know that many current seniors who lived through the depression have currency and PM's stashed away at home or else outside of a bank "Just In Case".

How about collectors? Is this common, regardless of age, or is it something collectors have not given much thought to?

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

    Maybe OTimage

To keep it close to US Coin Forum appropriate, I will say some of my tiny stash is US silver and gold coins, pre 1965. Good enough to keep me from being taken to the woodshed?image

I have been amassing precious metals (gold, specifically) via DCA for the past five years. Primarily as a hedge against the falling dollar.

For hard times i have a stash that will hold the family for many, many months. For really tough times i need to stock up some more lead. Last time i was at "Academy" the bullets seemed high. But i guess a kill for under 1 dollar is not to bad. lol

If hard times come for coin collectors I think we would manage. I wouldn't want to sell some of my stuff but if worst comes to worst, then I know what to do. As I collect paper money when I run across it, like star notes and old money. And silver bullion. image
