84 o'connell and sons ink pete rose 9's

hey these cards are on ebay.. it is the yellow card and the red card.my friend had someone put them on ebay and several people told me they were only worth like $30..if this is so whay are they going for over $150 right now? auction #'s are #220281626193 and #2202816226781. i traded this guy like $200 dollars of football cards for these cards because i thought they were worth $60. i feel that since that this is his friend that put them on ebay and the auction is private hes trying to get more money out of me..i could see if they were 10's. i have several rare 9's that i have the only 3 graded.. but i would never think they would go close to $200.. i think everyone should bid on it.. don

I don't understand...why do you want us to bid on them if it is someone else's auction?
  • i have already traded cards for those 2 cards.. they are mine, if you look at the auction the bids go from 20- 120. what im saying is that he is trying to say they are worth more. because he thinks i will pay him after giving him atleast $200 dollars of football cards (hot auto's and jerseys). he just now came over and asked me to bid the cards up so whi ever is doing this will not win.. yeah i guess i should just let them play their game cause they are they ones that have to pay the fees ..don

The cards are pops 1 and 2, with no 10s graded. A semi-scarce odd-ball issue. A little market research will tell you that Low pop + highest graded = Pete Rose player collectors will pay top dollar to be the first to get them.

So, are you saying that you agreed to a trade with this guy, sent him some cards, and he's SELLING the Roses now? You'd better contact him to make sure that you get your stuff back.

maybe i could get a few hundo from this one..i do not even see it listed in pop report..it has to be worth alot..lol don
  • yeah , well if you remember my card shop follies.lol this was a guy that came into the and he is freind with the guy that screwed me over. i think they are both in on this. so i have the second 9 of the yellow, and a 7 of the red. so then he came over to my house about a week ago and wanted to trade for some of my football star cards(auto's and jersey's and i know there was atleast $200 or so in this box i told him get what you want because i only offered him $60 for the cards because a guy on this site wanted to buy it for $30(my yellow 9) so heck i fugured i would give him alot of football cards and we both make out. who knows.. this whole auction thing with private bidders is fishy, i bid and im not private. so im just thinking they are fishin for bidders at the last second. cause this card was just $20.. what ever if it sells it sells he said he would get my cards back.. im kinda used to being screwed now.. don

The auction is not a private auction. Ebay automatically obscures the bidder's id's now. They have for quite a while now. The reason why your name shows up is because, well, you're logged in and Ebay will ALWAYS show you what you've gid on.

  • ok, i own all 3 of these 9's. there are no 10's and they are the only ones graded. rare does not mean desirable..

well atleast thats what i have been told. i had a mustang that there were only 58 driven off the line and i had the only one i ohio. this was the rarest production mustang ever produced, i was told at a car show "rare does not mean desirable". so i really do not buy that about the card im sure someone will want it more than me ,but i have already traded for it and he should have never put it on ebay in the 1st place.. don

it only takes a few guys to run a price through the roof. Take the 1987 Fleer Star Stickers Pete Rose in PSA 9. The last 2 Ebay sales:

    5/18/08 eBay 28.59
    11/6/07 eBay 130.00

Ive opened over 20 boxes of 87 fleer star stickers, they are near impossible in 10 and very tough in 9.

Don, in case you're confused, you can find the period key two keys to the right of the "M" on your keyboard.

It's also beneath and a bit to the right of the "L" key, if that's helpful.

I've opened my share of this stuff looking for Clarks, so I know how tough it is to find 9 or 10ish stuff in this issue. My point was, there's a $100 difference between sales.

    no...
  • these cards are what this post is about..
    image
the yellow card has a pop of 2 and they are both 9's.
the red one has a pop of 2 and 1 of them is a 7 and the other is a 9. i traded some cards for them and they guy i was getting them from thought they were worth more. basically , he put them on ebay and had someone bid them up to $150 or so a piece and told me he wanted more out of our trade. i told him that they were not worth $60 together. anyway thats what the post is about.. don

Then why are you asking $360.50 for the pair?
  • umm. because i sold the 7 for $70 a few weeks back. the guy the i gave the other 9 to sold it for $170. why are you worried about it. if you want them make an offer.if you could afford the cards you would not be chasing me all over cu.don

agreed, why would they grade an illegal card?

It's not about what I can/cannot afford, Donnie. It's about the fact that just because a card is low pop in it's grade doesn't necessarily mean it is rare and/or valuable.

The registry is a powerful drug.

Something tells me that Don created this thread just to show how valuable his 2 cards are.

That since his 'friends' sold for X the 2 he is selling, well you fill in the blanks.

That is if I understood his dribble.

Also, is it me or does anyone else think Don has some shady 'friends'?

    Steve
    Good for you.

    Steve:

I'm sorry you (and so many others) actually gave this guy/thread some thought. After reading some of his recent posts and rants, I've concluded that the wrapping is a little too tight on the Christmas presents. Ranting like a self-centered brat and selfish gloating accompanied by virtually incoherent writing makes any point Don is trying to make get lost in the shuffling madness.
