73 Down--1958 T. V. Westerns Completed in PSA 8 or Better

Thanks to good friend and dealer extraordinaire Steve Novella, I have finished my 73rd vintage or semi-vintage set in psa 8 or better--T.V. Westerns.

The set is comprised of a few cards from several of the most popular westerns of the day--among them Gunsmoke, Wanted Dead or Alive, Have Gun Will Travel, The Californian, Wagon Train and Union Pacific...Great shows. I collected this when I was 5 and decided tio rebuild in psa 8 or better. The final card--41-Jeff Morrow as Bart McClellan is the 2nd toughest in the set--pop 8 in psa 8. Card 48-The Warning-is a pop 5.

This set represents a continued expansion of my collecting efforts into non-sports which ultimately may account for 10% of my graded sets. My interest is not broad-based here--primarily movie/tv starss, historical or famous people. This is my 5th non-sport set completed in psa 8 or better.

This set ranks 4th on the PSA Set Registry with a 8.08 set rating which places it 4th behind Recent HOF inductee Bill Bengen and Mighty. I will let the set rest at this level.

The goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets in PSA 8 or better. I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my goal.

    Hey Jimbo,

Glad to see you're still chipping away at it. I was a little worried about you last week, after hearing the news .... and even more so when I tried to e-mail you and your mail box was full. Although, I understand ... you're a pretty popular guy!

Congrat's on set number 74. Yes, it's really number 74 because you keep forgetting to list your straight PSA 10's 1976 Crane Disc FB set. I mean, if you can have that 1976 Wonder Bread set on your list ... I'd certainly think an award winning, PERFECT set of Crane Discs should make the cut too. Especially because of their historical royal lineage.

Anyway, I hope all is well in Jimbo Lilloland, and congrat's again on scratching another one off your list!

Thanks Mike. I am doing okay. My mailbox holds 1000 e-mails and it filled up more quickly than expected after my work e-mail was off for a day or so. I am working for a new company and while my net worth took a hit and I am no longer able to compete with guys like Fuzzdude Art for the low pop psa 9s I will get along okay.

You may have a point on the Cranes....maybe I will just try to slide it in as a semi-vintage set.

    Wondo,

In an ideal world I would buy them but for a couple of reasons I will have to pass--at least for the time being.

    Congrats on #73 Dav!

And just a tip I'll share with you... I find that when my finances are down, that I can always pick up the NFL Cheerleaders cards in PSA 8 or better for very reasonable prices. For some reason I feel better afterwards...

    Frank,

I do have a cheerleaders set on display in the room. At first I had it for my daughter as it was her favorite set. Now I have it as I find its not too bad to look at for me.
