It reminded me of the Ventura / Ryan pounding except Sheffield charged from first base. He was pissed because the pitcher threw over to first base.
Pretty funny. He ended up in a headlock getting knuckled..lol.

Yeah Paul. They should be allowed to use their bats. That would at least make it interesting

I do not agree with charging the mound and do not condone what Sheffield did, but I do understand him and he was provoked. This is serious and someone had to call on Carmona to stop the nonsense.

Juan Marichal had the right idea.
August 22, 1965
Dodger catcher John Roseboro was a clutch hitter and classy fielder, but he's remembered most for an incident in 1965, considered by many to be one of baseball's uglier moments. Juan Marichal, the San Francisco Giants pitcher, came up to bat in the third inning of a game at Candlestick Park. Marichal had hit a Dodger player earlier and a peeved Roseboro had been firing Sandy Koufax's pitches back to him just inches from Marichal's ear as he took his turn at bat.
Marichal turned around to tell Roseboro to stop and Roseboro stood up and took off his mask. Marichal saw this as a threat and immediately hit the catcher over the head with the bat twice, opening a 2-inch gash in Roseboro's head. With blood gushing down Roseboro's face, the two teams—already heated rivals battling for the NL pennant—brawled for 14 minutes.
Marichal was suspended for eight games, and Roseboro later sued him for $110,000 in damages. Yet, the two men somehow became friends in the 1980s.

I want Carmona's autograph, as I am now a fan.
If he just knocked the %$%# out of Sheffield(who is the biggest dirt bag, liar, cheater, and game thrower in baseball), amen!

I don't know. Nolan Rayn seemed to handle himself pretty well in the Ventura fight. He even had the middle knuckle working in that fight.

Yeah Ryan's a bad dude. I still would not want to fight him.

if you actually knew anything about baseball and about pitching, or paid attention, you'd understand some things. Carmona has a very "lively" ball and one of his strengths is pitching inside, a combination which often leads to batters being brushed back and/or hit. combine that with a hitter such as Sheffield who is well known for "cheating" up to the plate and things happen. why would Carmona intentionally throw at a batter late in a game he's losing by three runs?? that's not when you throw at a guy.
carry things a bit further, look at Sheffield and his well known and earned reputation as a guy with a bad attitude and huge chip on his shoulder. he's had agreat carreer yet i wonder what he could have done if he'd been able to control his emotions a little better. what kind of crap was he trying to pull by walking all the way to first base with his jaw flapping and still carrying his bat??? that's total Bush League in most anyones book. then Carmona throws to first, probably to taunt him, and the result was predictable.
again, if you know anything about baseball you'd have known where this was going!!!!! Carmona couldn't back down and Sheffield had trapped himself-----he had no real choice other than to charge thje mound after he'd in effect humiliated himself by acting like a fool in Carmona's kitchen. he was doomed. i actually thought it was funny that he got his ass kicked, i guess that's why he thought he'd need the bat he reluctantly gave to the first base coach. it's really simple, if you can't back up what you say, keep your mouth shut!!!!!
for anyone interested, go to the Indians web page and look around, there's a five-minute video clip of the whole thing, complete with Carmona rapping on Sheffield's melon as he holds him in a headlock. it's really great drama!!!
and by the way, German dude, did i say you're a complete idiot, not a partial one, complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carmona pitches inside and his ball does indeed have a great deal of movement.
Sheffield didn't even get up and was very rude and arrogant.

<< <i>There is a lot of background to this. Carmona has hunted the heads of Detroit hitters before. He provoked Sheffield. This was not something that happened Friday, Carmona has done this before. Carmona is a big jerk. So, let's not blame Sheffield here, this was not some isolated incident. Aiming for the body or head with a baseball is very serious. Sheffield was not taking this lightly, nor should he.

What a complete load of crap.
It only gets better. I read this on the Indians website:
<< <i>He called me out," Sheffield said. "If you call me out, I answer the call. >>
Answering the call? How? By getting put in a headlock and receiving multiple blows to the top of his dome?
What a numbnut

Quotes from Sheffield.
"I saw the tape," he said. "I know who they are and I guarantee you they'll have to deal with me."
I bet everyone is real scared there Ventura.
in a game which has very important playoff implications for the BoSox and mean quite a bit in the prid-department for the Tribe, Josh Becket hit three players. guess what, none of them charged the mound, they simply took things in stride and joined the ranks of the close to 100 other teammates that have been hit this year. it didn't matter that Becket and the Indians "have history" or any other silly thing. they jsut played the game......................and beat the Sox 4-3!!!!!
