Die break on this Franklin Yes or No?

Would you call these die breaks or some other type of damage pulled this from a 55 mint set.

    Looks like damage and not die cracks.

    was this still sealed up (edited this spot- I thought Proof set at first) when you observed the potential die breaks? or did it appear as though the staple was fresh....


    I edited I thought I saw proof set- maybe I did get my bell rung a bit earlier today...

    Looks like scratches that have toned over. A die crack will be raised as the material fills the crack when stamped.

  • I'm fairly sure those are imperfections in the planchet that were not obliterated during the striking.

    edit to add: definitely not die break.

    I agree. Close inspection on the second image strongly suggests a scratched planchet.
