"Widow's mites" are the nickname given to the small, often crude bronze leptons of ancient Judaea, struck just before and during the lifetime of Christ. They are mentioned in the Bible in a parable about a poor widow who gave them as temple offerings.
Really crude ones can be had for less than ten bucks. "Nicer" ones are often north of twenty bucks.
