OMG, that's one of my biggest fears watching HA live. didn't think it would ever really happen though. disabled from now on!!! until my lots come up at least
I signed on to an antique auction site that had some coins. they were doing rugs and I was feeling my way around the site. I saw a button that said click here to bid. I wanted to be ready to bid when the coins came up so I clicked it and nothing happened. I waited a while and clicked it again. Finally I clicked it one more time and it flashed "You won" and the picture changed to the next item. Turned out it was just a $200 rug (the cheapest in the auction) and I told them I'd pay and they could donate it rather than pay $100 shipping. They cancelled my bid as a courtesy. The button didn't give me the impression that I was one-click bidding like heritage does.

Be very careful. It's like having a safety on a gun. You only have a couple of seconds to bid and if you forget to take the safety off you'll miss your lot. I only buy handguns without a safety for this reason. I'm using this as an analogy and don't want to hijack the thread to handguns.
I just actually won a lot I wanted! (wrong forum tho') Yay!
[edit] I think i'll disable the big red button. Very expensive things are going by! Crazy stuff in the world auction! >>
They're cool, but I'd rather get one from some cool western boomtown or the Arizona Territory or New Mexico Territory, heck, even getting one from my hometown would be cool. But...... Iowa? No thanks.
The other night when I was on there, I thought that could be a problem because I was also playing solitaire and messing around on eBay whilst I was waiting for the notes I was interested in on HA Live. I disabled that bad button till the good stuff came my way.

Yes, contact them immediately, and explain the error. Blame it on a glitch in your connection, or delays in data transmission. Their system does freeze and screw up from time to time. They may be able to undo the purchase, if there was a valid underbid on record (book, fax, prior internet, etc), so that they have someone else to sell it to at the next lowest increment. That way it's atill fair to the consignor.
That almost happened to me last night. I hit the bid button twice to try and win a coin and it proceeded to place a bid on the next coin in the auction, a $6,000 bid! Fortunately for me, someone else outbid me or I'd have had to call my broker and sell some stock quick to pay for the error.

When watching in front of the TV on my wireless laptop I noticed a note "your connection is too slow" under the video. I still had video and audio but I noticed the video/audio seemed behind the prices listed by a few seconds. You need to look at the current price/next bid rather than listening to the audio is you're not on a high speed connection. --Jerry
Well having looked at the note, if you have to bite it, at least you got a great note for the money you spent, kind of surprised that sold at that low level bid. If you do end up ponying up for it, offer it over on the Paper Money BST, and you will have takers lined up. The margins on that are off a bit, but otherwise very nice clean original paper.

Your post make me think of this emoticon. Very funny...
I accidentally hit the button on an ugly Lincoln in Heritage's Long Beach auction..luckily someone bailed me out and bid higher >>
The funny thing (for me, not for them) is thinking that someone could have gotten the pieces much cheaper without the erroneous bids being placed......

<< <i>Just be thankful that it wasn't any worse.
Well, now I'm stuck with some random $10 National from Iowa for $632. Ug.

I make sure to keep the mouse away from the potentially hazardous red button. I have now disabled it wisely, thanks for sharing your experience.
You might as well give a call and inquire as to whether your bid can be removed. It doesn't hurt to try and could save you a nice chunk of change.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
