I looked in my box and none of my coins look like they lost value today. No one ever found a way to short rare coins.

Yes, it certainly seems that the irresponsible way is being 'rewarded' for now. . . however, there WILL be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Sure as the sun rises. We reap what we sow. But it's the ripple effect very few are considering.
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.

I agree. Two people who I know lived high on the hog with debt and now it is time to pay the piper. The sad part is that they felt they had to keep up with the Joneses. It reminds me of that scene in Titanic, where the rich family lost a lot of money (I can't remember the exact circumstances), and the mother says to the kids, "let's not tell our friends. If they know we lost everything, they won't talk to us anymore", or something like that.

  • Why should the government bail out folks who cannot pay their mortgages? When I had a mortgage I did without. No parties, no shows, no movies, brown bagged lunches, pasta suppers. No new car for over 20 years! I want my share too if the government decides to give out my tax money to bail out these folks.

This is basically the punishment of thriftiness and frugality. If you did live high on the hog, blow your money and buy a house you had no business buying then those who planned well and lived within their means are going to cover for you.

What's gonna happen when the government realizes it's been living like this itself? The next couple of generations will be in for a rough ride...
  • if you break it down , using last years data.............

every point up or down on the DOW represents about a billion dollars

so coins lost ? around 1/2 a TRILLION dollar coins in the last couple days !
