New Purchases

Just a couple of coins I found interesting but I honestly know nothing about.
Sellers pics and he always has bad pics or scans. I have bought from him before and been satisfied.

Any info on these?

    The first is a Lippe-Detmold 3 Pfenning, KM-252. A weird 2-year type minted in Berlin in 1847 and 1858.

The second is a Cologne 1/4 Stuber, KM-135. The monogram on the obverse is CAC for Clemens August of Bavaria. This one took awhile to identify because Clemens August was also the prince-bishop of Regensburg, Munster, Paderborn and a lot of other states.

    Hope this helps! Nice pickups.
  • The first piece has the same reverse as a few Prussian coins in my collection. It's not Prussian though. I'm not good enough with the German States to identify it from the obverse shield but someone should be able to do so easily. Scheide munze means, although doesn't literally translate as, fractional currency. The writing on the obv. tells you that 4 of these coins = 1 groschen.

I'd guess the second piece is german states too.

Sweet, I didn't know what "Scheide munze" meant, other than it had something to do with money. image

The Krause German Catalog has a fairly comprehensive "instant identifier" chart for the symbols that appear on German States coins. It also gives a few important monograms.

    Edited for spelling
  • Thanks for the input everyone. I will try and take some better photos as soon as I get the coins.
