Do Dansco Albums Tone Morgans?? (Lots of Pics!)

I haven't looked at my Morgans in over a year (nor even really thought about them image). I'm noticing that several of them seem to have toned up a bit since I last saw them. Most (if not all) were cracked out of either NGC or PCGS holders and put in the Dansco albums about 2 years ago.

If I recall correctly, these were all blast white when I cracked them out image. They all seem to have similar rim toning (considering all coins are different) and I'm seeing more toning on the reverses........

Not that I'm complaining at all, but what's going on? Do Morgans tone in a Dansco??

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Rick

A little air can seep in through the slider gaps. Also I don't believe that archival paper is used for the cardboard, so yes toning will occur. Nice Morgans.

  • Yes, Dansco albums will cause some toning. It all depends on where and how they are stored as to how much will happen.

DOn't fret, Bajj. You can always do a quick dip to get them back to the way they should look image
  • I have a State quarter set and a Kennedy set in Dansco albums. Not one iota of toning. The coins look as if I put them in there yesterday.

I also have the 7070. All the unc silver hasn't developed any toning whatsoever.

  • I have noticed that the Danscos do tend to tone silver coins over time. Sometimes it looks nice, sometimes just mediocre.

put a set of Ikes in a Dansco and watch all kinds of weird toning take over, rather quickly I might add (less than two years to go from bright/white to "WTF is that?")

Dansco albums are not archival. I regularly hear reports of them toning silver and copper nickel coins.

Is it the Dansco Album or the conditions it is stored in? They do have an archive slip cover to put around the album.

You should have stored the album in a ziplock bag with a desiccant. Do you live in a warn humid climate?

  • If you put them in the album with the intention of toning them are they still NT?

They can tone them, but they also can NOT tone them, depending on the conditions you keep the album in. That's more important than the album itself.

Depends on where you store them.

Of course. If you store your coin collection in a hot attic with the intention of not toning them are the coins still AT?
