My Son was given a Bat by a Player (Minor League)

We went to the final game of the Championship for the Carolina League between the Potomac Nationals and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The Nats won the Mills Cup which is their version of the World Series. We stayed and watched the post game celebration. After the trophy presentation one of the players, an outfielder named Dee Brown, came out the dugout with and arm-full of bats. He gave them out to some of the kids. My son was lucky enough to get one. We will probably take it next season and get some of the players to sign it.

I'll be the first to say, "I'm very sorry to hear this happened to you" just kidding....

That's very cool and I'm sure you and your son will remember that forever!

I strongly encourage everyone to go to a minor league game. It will cost less than MLB. You will get better seats than MLB. Parking is cheap or free. Food is less expensive and at least just as good as MLB. And the players don't yet have egos.

You will enjoy it more than a major league game. Guaranteed.

I do not enjoy it as much. Something about knowing everyone on the field has at least $5 Million bucks in their bank account really makes big league ball better.

But really minors are great, I am lucky enough to get to enjoy the Bluefield Orioles and Princeton Devil Rays crosstown matchup.
  • that's a nice piece of memorabilia. Memories are better than anything ... I just picked up a book at a garage sale "Yankee Stadium: 75 Years of Glory ..."

so many of the stories by the noted people talk about remembering their first game with their Dads.

    long live cool.
  • That's cool!

Next year will be the last year our local team will play here, Bakersfield Blaze. image

  • I took the boys to see a bunch of Atlantic City Surf (Can-Am League) games and a few Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies affiliate) games this summer. My 5 yo enjoyed going to the games, so next year we can try a couple MLB games.
The minor league games are great for the kids. The Surf signed autographs after every game and even signed in-between games of doubleheaders (my boys had no idea what a doubleheader was...LOL)
Cecil Fielder managed the Surf this year and Big Daddy always stopped to sign for the kids and even the adults, unless his grandson(?) was with him. The players were great with the kids, spending a half hour or more signing and even thanked everyone for coming out.
The games aren't bad and the $5 ticket price for children let us get to a few games every homestand.
  • Very cool! Congrats to your son.
