image

K-253 GUSTAV NOSKE (Reichswehramt).
1919, Cast Bronze, 59.2mm, 63.20g, edge-punched “KGoeTz”, Gussfrisch, as cast.

Social Democrat Minister of Defense from 1919-20 he ruthlessly suppressed radical uprisings of the left wing in Germany. Medal commemorates the new Reichswehr which after Versailles Treaty remains true to its principles.

Inscription on obverse. "We remain 3" (the figure 3 in German drei has similar sound as treu for "true.") with a hand held up in a pledge between two helmets, a picklehaubed example from 1914 and a regular one from 1919.

Inscription on rev. "Get all into the Reichswehr (army.)" with Noske lifting the army’s helmet and marching soldiers below and behind him.

Thanks for sharing another amazing medal. I love them, but I'm afraid that if I started getting them for myself, I couldn't stop image -Preussen

  • Another GOETZ medal from Cacheman, always a treat! I notice that you are not posting new medals with the regularity that you once did and assume that you are down to the "final few". Can you give us an idea of the total known medals and the number you lack? If you don't wish to reveal this info, I understand.

ball park, I have about 425 of the known 716. Where the number gets interesting is the number of newly discovered pieces that have never been identified...I have between 10-20 of those. Can't show any of those here as I must publish the info first. I'm still collecting but as you mentioned, it gets tougher as you zero in on the more difficult pieces. It's more a waiting game than anything else. The pieces grow exponentially expensive too. I think I have only 2 of the satiricals I'm still missing from the 175 Goetz created.

Received Goetz' engraving tools and letter punches several weeks ago but haven't had a chance to image and record them yet. One of a kind. His personal medal cabinet should arrive by air freight by the 25th of this month.

image I probably could as I have a lot of other personal stuff of his too...

I have been talking to a little museum near me where I'd like to get a exhibition set up for the Goetz material.

Very cool. I always wondered what that massive and lonely looking building on the cliffs of the Colombia is.

Dan asked what I used for lighting in a PM...here's my answer to him.

image a 15w bulb in a clamp light with a small aluminum shade. I have a white t-shirt stretched across the face of the shade and it is held in place with a rubberband...I only go high-tech image

I have spent $600 plus for lighting equipment over the past few years and my photos still look crappy.image -Dan

It's much easier to photograph bronze that has a matte finish rather than a shiny coin or proof. Goetz made many proofs and struck medals too and they are a bear to image for me too. Most of the time I'll take two shots of both sides...if neither stands up to my scrutiny then I set them aside for later. It's amazing how you can go back and try again later and have them turn out beautifully...go figger.

I can't wait to see the personal medal cabinet--how do you find this stuff? And when will you write a book?
