Anyone here ever find a 55 DDO Lincoln in OBW?

Every time I see a OBW of 55 P Lincoln's on eBay I get tempted to throw a bid in. My chances are probably higher to win the lottery I know.

Just curious if anybody here as ever actually found a DDO when opening a bank roll.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.

  • IMHO you should get that thought out of your head

I think 99 percent of all the rolls have been opened and re wrapped

I know thats why I talk myself out of it every time. I agree which is why I said I'd likely win the lottery first.

I'm just curious if anyone has had it happen here... and no I dont mean one of the senior members on the board opening a OBW in 1956.

I thought the majority of the 55 DDO were found in a cigarette promotional pack.

Might have been for all I know. Not a Lincoln guy which is just another reason to not buy an OBW lol.

I'm learning stuff already though if this is correct. So they were kind of like the "Cheerios Dollars" of their day huh?

    No.

I found a 72/72 back then, but the roll was a circ roll and the coin had been touched and left a fingerprint.

One of our club members(senior guy) had found one in one of those cig packs when you got back two cents when you paid with a quarter when he lived up in new england back in 55. He doesnt have it any longer he sold it several years back when somebody offered him 500 bucks for it,

There are only two coins I didn't find in circulation: SVDB and '55DDO.

Back in 1982 time frame my 4th grade teacher told a story to the class. I remember my teacher Mr. Gibson who was also a coin and stamp collector telling us a story when he was a kid.

He said he and friend went to the bank and got two rolls of pennies to spend. And they where all blurry so he spent them. Not knowing at the time they where all 1955 DDO.
He was still fuming mad about after all those years. Can't say I blame him though.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
