.........then why doesn't the Mint buy more blanks and start filling as many orders as they can?

The Mint shouldn't have a problem in taking 1000 oz. bars in quantity, right?

After all, their price is very healthy and they would make a very nice profit.

  • There is a time delay between ordering, fabricating and delivering. Considering that silver is down 25% in less than a month, and now 50% off its highs, who knows what the price and demand would be when that is all done? High level government employees generally don't like to put their necks on the line. It is much, much safer to wait for at least the appearance of a stable price.

    The US mint cannot use 1000 ounce COMEX bars for SAE production.

    By US law, the silver in US Silver Eagle coins has to be guaranteed to have derived from US mines.

    There is no way that can be done with a COMEX bar.
