The Official 2008 LA Dodgers Championship Run Thread

The Dodgers are going to be World Champs!!!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding, but it's certainly nice to have some excitement and some buzz out here. This town has become Lakertown, USC football town, UCLA basketball and of course the Not in LA Angels. It's been a long time since the Dodgers have done anything. Maybe with the Dodgers great pitching and their streaky hitting they can peak at the right time and keep their lead on the Diamondbacks....Who knows, maybe they can get their first playoff wins in 20 years??

I guess you didn't read my post very well. It says I was just kidding about the Dodgers going to be world champs. I was only stating it was nice to see a little life in the lifeless Dodger's as they haven't done squat since '88. They have had a few good teams in the last 20 years but no playoff wins.

And why would I come on here in April, May, June, July and August and say I expect them to be champs. That would make me a homer which I;m not, I'm a realist. I basically mentioned the Dodgers might win a playoff game. That's realistic if they win the division and make the playoffs.

And that is a mighty big IF being the Dodgers are on a super big hot streak at the same time the Diamondbacks are on a super bad streak, The Dodgers would have to win the division to make the playoffs (not close to a wild card team).....I don't see the Diamondbacks giving it away like they have in the last couple of weeks which makes the Dodgers winning the division a big if.

Realistically, the Dodgers are a 500 team and that is probably it. I just hope ownership realizes Ned Colletti is a trainwreck and most of his signings haven't worked out. He brought in Torre and Ramirez, but Manny is here for the season and I can't see the Dodgers coming to terms with Scott Boras on a 4 year deal.

Don't be so uptight MCMLVTopps. I was just starting a fun thread.

Yeah the west is bad and getting worse by the minute. It might be up to the Cubs to save face for the NL .

As a lifelong Dodger fan it is sad how far they have fallen. To not win a world series for 20 years is NOT very Dodger like. I suppose this is what it feels like to be a Giant's fan... oh wait, they haven't won a world series since the 50's! image

Though the Dodgers are not great... they were not great in 1988 either!

The Dodgers are certainly on a hot streak as they are putting some distance on the DBacks. Agnother big win last night. Wow, 5 more wins and the Dodgers will have a winning record! LOL

Man, the Diamondbacks SUCK lately!! Looks like we will have to count on the Brewers or the Cubs to keep Manny out of the WS.

The way the Dodgers are playing lately, it would not surprise me at all to see them make the WS if Manny continues to light up the NL and with Torre at the helm. You only need to look back to the 2006 Cardinals for a team with a crappy record making (and winning) the WS. Also, the Cubs are probably destined to choke away the NLCS to a .520 team.

bman has always made posts about the Dodgers and LA sports and has posted pics of him and his kids at games (if I'm not mistaken). I'd classify him as a "real fan". Just because he doesn't glorify every single win the Dodgers have picked up on a message board, does not mean he is any less of a fan.

I'm pulling for the Dodgers. I've spent many days down at Dodgertown throughout their time there and would call them my third "favorite" team. The Braves suck and I'm not a fan of Chicago, Milwaukee or NY and Philly so they're who I'm pulling for. Plus, I'm a Manny fan.

Thanks Goot, and you are right. I've posted pics of my son at the games and have made lots of Dodgers comments, but they are always baseball fan comments and not unrealistic comments. I'm a lifetime baseball fan and I don't lose any sleep over the Dodgers, or any teams losing.

As far as your World Series prediction....that would awesome, but I don't even have dreams that good. No matter what happens, I think real baseball fans gotta be happy with the different teams going for the playoffs.

Here is a favorite pic of my son Wyatt at a Dodger game (thats a photo I posted before)

Dodgers get another big win and another quality start from Lowe last night. Eithier hitting over .300, Manny back over .400, Loney close to .300, Blake 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's, and defense looking solid. Plus their pitching staff has only giving up 593 runs this year which is the best in MLB with the next best Cubs giving up 607 runs with their impressive just under 800 runs. Not to mention Jeff Kent, has not been around since they got hot, and I hear that's probably one of the big reasons the Dodgers young players have been so relaxed. Joe Torre was quiet and patient during their slumps and he has tweaked their lineup to a very strong defensive unit, especially up the middle, which is great for the pitchers like Lowe and Maddox. Question marks: If Penny and Saito can get back to form, that will really strengthen their pen.

The Dodgers are super hot and clicking on all cylinders winning 14 of their last 16 games and it couldn't be realistic if they could keep it up if they end up winning the division and play that hot in the playoffs. That being said, I have heard many sports people on different networks all saying the Dodgers are not a team you want to meet in the playoffs as their piching staff has been awesome and they have been super streaky.

Again, not saying they will win anything in the playoffs, but it's really exciting to see out here in LA. This Dodgers team kind of reminds me of what happened to the Lakers last season when no one expected anything from them and they still made the finals.

Good one Barndog! lol I would bet the Network would love that series...It would be some very high ratings for sure.

That's probably realistic, but Manny will make it up with his defense....image Did anyone see his blunder last night against the Giants? Luckily I think that was his first really bad play with the Dodgers.

Just wanted to give the Dodgers congrats! As many have said, they are very lucky to be out West but we will take it! Now Torre needs to work some magic and trim down the roster. I would leave Kent off the roster.image

I'm very excited as the Dodgers just finished their sweep of the Cubs, NL's best record team. It's been a long time since the Dodgers won it all back in 1988. I'm not sure how the Dodgers can hang agains the Rays or the Sox, but I think they will give the Phillies or Brewers a good series. image

    Go Dodger's!!!
  • From my perspective, a Dodgers - Red Sox world series is just what Hank Steinbrenner needs to help his overly inflated ego.

    GO DODGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol I'm sure the TV network would love that series too.

I heard that George Steinbrenner wants to be frozen when he dies so he can be put in Hanks new office at the new stadium which will allow him to oversee what's really going on with the Yankees.

I have vivid memories of going to playoff games in '77 and '78 at Dodger Stadium with my grandfather. Both teams were loaded with great players. Luckily the good guys won both years. Hopefully that will happen again this year! Go blue!

That's cool. I actually didn't make any playoff games back then but I remember going to many Dodger Old Timer games with my parents and grandfather during the 70's. I need to find a list of some of the greats that were at those games. Good stuff. My parents actually went to the 1978 World Series game 2 against the Yankees when young Bob Welch got a big Save and struck out Reggie Jackson in the 9th inning. I believe I still have the ticket somewhere.
