So Who's Actually Ready For the E-bay Changes??

Good day,
Still trying to get my mind around everything I have to do to get ready to go to all PayPal starting next month. I am one of the few that have never excepted PayPal before, so this chnge is changing everything in my listings. Not a debate on that pro or con, just trying to figure logistically how I am going to do this. Having just opened my Store two months ago and just now getting things basically up and running with about 250 listings. Now I have just started letting all of my listings end at the end of their month, and haven't Re-listed anything, while I figure out how I am going to go in and make all the changes that need to to all of the stuff before I put them back up. The way things are playing out, at about Oct. 1st I am going to have a Store that is empty.
I am still continuing with me weekly Auctions and was using my Auction format to see what sold and then if it didn't sell move it into my Store. But now I have another 100 Auctions in Limbo as well, waiting to determine what to do first, next, ect.
I must say that overall I haven't been totally impressed with the Store performance so far, my Auctions are still doing gang busters over my Store listings.
Am debating going to all Free Shipping for Store stuff (And building in the cost as I have seen many members say they do here), but keeping my reasonable shipping for Auctions. Can you do this?
Is E-Bay offering any assistance in getting all these changes done to our Store and or Auction listings?
Any advice, help, ideas?
Thanks
Neil

And that to me is the Silver Lining in this.
I recieved Two cash payments this weekend, one $15, and one $20. No Auction number, No E-bay Id, No copy of the Auction ending sheet, No Shipping amount, with tiered shipping that wouldn't help anyway, No Nothing, just cash in an envelope wrapped in a blank piece of paper. It amazes me these people think that we as Sellers are clarivoyant and will just Know!!!!
I found one fairly easy only about 5-10 minutes of searching and trying to match up to all my ended auctions, the second one was probably rounded up from some smaller amount, I gave up after 15 minutes for $15 bucks put it in an envelope back to them, sorry provide some info then maybe you'll get your item.
All PayPal I won't have to deal with this anymore!!!!!!

  • Expect nothing from Ebay on this. When they removed cash as a payment option there was no help. Luckily I have been Paypal only for over 18 months so I don't have to change anything in my store or anywhere.

Yes buyers can still send checks or money orders, but if a seller says they accept it Ebay can remove the listings and suspend the seller.

Neil - please don't take this personally but I'm looking forward to the day everyone must take paypal - I looked at your store and some of your auctions but passed when I saw/remembered that you do not take paypal. I'll be interested to see if you see an increase in sales once you begin to take the pal.

I haven't figured out the precise wording yet, but somehow I'm going to get it in the description that money orders and checks can still be sent to me. I know the "ebay police" are likely going to be looking for key words on this in descriptions, so ya gotta be careful not to get the auctions pulled.

  • Good day,
It isn't E-bay itself you have to worry about, it's the E-bay DooGooders who think it's their mission in life to NOT mind their own business!!!

    BIG Mistake.

    And, not necessary.

I have been PP-only for a ling time. I say so at least twice in each listing.
NO day goes by without buyers asking if they can pay with paper instead
    of using PP.

The safe solution for sellers who want paper-payments, is to say NOTHING
about payment methods in their listings. (There will be some lingo in there
from EBAY; many buyers will not even see it.)

When the buyer gets the invoice, they will shoot an email back asking to
pay with paper, if they want to. Simply say, "Fine," and email the addy.

    .....................

ANY mention of paper-payments in a listing, invoice, or email will result in the
listing being cancelled, fees being lost, and a policy-violation strike being recorded.

EBAY cheerleaders and psychos will turn-in violators. EBAY's bots will
be reviewing listings, invoices and emails. EBAY will audit checkout
logs; if you have more than 4% CO-failure, EBAY will contact you and
    ask WHY.

    ..................

I know it is hard to grasp that EBAY does NOT want any of our business,
but it is absolutely TRUE. They will be more than happy to use PP violations
to get rid of EVERYBODY in our class. Trying to circumvent the new scheme
    will certainly result in suspension.

    ...........

Soon, store traffic will fall to near ZERO; unless you get the traffic from google,
some other search platform, or from a landing-site or portal.

The "35-cents for 30-days" in CORE will turn the stores into little warehouses
    that generate few sales.

The stores will be convenient organizing centers, but not much more than that.

Make sure you have a clean copy of google-base store-connector installed. Use
it about every 15-days or so. Don't rely on EBAY to dump the store inventory
    onto google.

    ...........

    Smart Play:

Register at EVERY sales venue that offers free listings and free stores.
Load some duplicates in the free stores.

The Steiner Co - publishers of auctionbytes.com - has a new portal. Register
all of your locations, including EBAY. (The EBAY FVF 75%-credit code can be used.)
This is a REAL company and the portal will be a success; eventually.

    Free Portal

    ..........

There is a whole bunch of bad stuff going on inside of EBAY. The radical schemes
they are now pushing could be reversed quickly, if the BOD and enough execs revolt.
There is a brain-drain underway there, that will accelerate in the next 90-days.
NOT everybody at/near the top is an idiot. Good remedies are possible.

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

If you stick with that plan, make sure that ALL of the listings are backed up
in a clean-copy of turbo and/or in a spreadsheet file.

EBAY will cancel listings that are not in PERFECT compliance. Those listings
will NOT be sent to "unsold items." Removed listings will be poofed into
    never-to-be-found land.

We've been selling on eBay since 1998 and can't remember the last time anyone has paid us via any means other than PayPal.

But, our payment types accepted have always been PayPal and Postal Money Orders only ... never personal checks.

So we really don't have much to adjust.

In that respect, we're ready for the changes.

It's almost as if the ebay insiders are shorting ebay stock through offshore accounts and want their company to fail, and I'm almost not kidding.
  • I am going to start changing my listings today.

I have thought about it and I have decided perhaps the best way to say I take other forms of payment is something like, "You can pay by Pay Pal by clicking the grey Pay Pal button." Meaning by saying "You can pay by Pay Pal.." some might get I am also saying I take other forms of payment. And I do, you can pay me in cash, money order, check, silver, gold, foreign money, whatever, I am good.

There is no way to know that for certain.

    They keep saying go/stop/wait/start.

October is certain for PayPal; no paper.

Stated S+H and stated return-policy is fluid. Anticipate October.
(They are building the check-box that says, "No Returns." Thus,
there has been a delay in that rule.)

Just change as many as you can; backup ALL listings.

    ...................

By early next year, returns/refunds will be mandatory. That
    will require another redo.

S+H limits are on the way, BUT there is a good chance that
the calculator will be permiited WITHOUT any addition of a
    "handling fee."

    ...........

By Sept 20, the "35-cents for 30-days" in CORE should be
    fully up in most categories.

We are used to competing with 13M+ listings in CORE. Now,
we may have 100M in CORE by XMAS.

"Free" S+H earns a "free" subtitle. That I like.

    Nope.

They still have about $1-billion in the current buy-back fund.
As long as they can spend SHAREHOLDRS' money to prop
the thing up, they will not SHORT it.

    //////////////

    gloat.....

My one-year-plus SHORT saw the thing at about another five-year low, this morning.

DB issued another bad note, and downgraded it. ($19 target). There will be a pop on earnings to
give GS clients a chance to escape. Then, it is headed for single digits by late 2009.

SKYPE will be sold soon, but JD is resisting calls to spin-off PayPal. PP is really all that
is left that has ANY value.

  • Yeah, totally ready. Simply, I am not selling anymore due to the crap changes that have occured over the last few months. I have not listed anything in weeks, and have made up my mind that it's not worth it anymore. I sure hope many others follow, and it hurts Ebay/Paypal's pocket in the long run. I had been a seller for 7 years or so, but I've had enough.

They don't care if you sell or not. If all the small sellers would stop selling they would be just as happy. As storm has pointed out they are wanting to get rid of the little guys as fast as possible.

Hey, Mr. Ebay, as I stated on here in the past, I sold thousands per month. The lowest month I can recall in about 7 years was around $3,000, and it was common for me to do $5000 or better per month on a consistent basis(selling mid/higher end stuff). You have to be one of the biggest Ebay homers I have ever seen. What are you moving per month, "Mr. Big Time"?? Give me a break..
  • That is small fish compared to what Ebay is considering to be what they want to keep. They are wanting sellers who list like Buy.com and Wal-Mart will. They created the new Diamond Power Seller level for a reason. I currently owe Ebay just under 1000.00 in fees for this month if that gives you a hint what I sell.

Even a friend of mine who is a Titanium Power Seller is thinking the same thing Storm is. Ebay does not want small sellers areound and to them that is anything under the Diamond Power Seller Level.

Here is my last 90 days totals though..
    Sold (last 90 days)

    # of Listings 947
    Sales 14,564.57

I am like Storm though I am not going to quit selling on Ebay until they tell me I can't see there anymore. Quitting is just what Ebay wants you to do.

Keep smoking the helium, I don't need it. I never said I was a "big fish". I was just tinkering with Ebay in my spare time from work. I know about $70,000-$80,000 per year does not affect them, but if enough people do the same thing I am doing, it sure as hell will in the long run. image

It took you 947 listings to sell $14,000 in capital?
  • Most of my items sell for under 15.00. Many I pay less than 1.00 for so it all works out.

September will be a very slow, time consuming month for me.

I've been slowly moving (one at a time) my 300 store items from personal check / money order only to PayPal only.

Not a fan of accepting Paypal at all (eBay already takes enough of a cut, not to mention the horror stories about claims where PayPal sides with the buyer)
but financially it would be stupid for me not to keep my store open.

    Massasin:
    Good day,
That is what I forsee in my future for this month. I have about 300-400 total to convert, (Not counting new Auctions this month and new unsold Auctions to convert to Store listings), how much time are we talking and what should I be aware of to not miss when changing the listings.
    Thanks

"...how much time are we talking and what should I be aware of to not miss when changing the listings..."

    ////////////////////////

Easiest to just put the changes straight into each of the listings. "Revise."

Just do single item revisions within categories; the WYSIWYG page is easier to
work with. (TL and the HTML pages actually can take longer to fix.)

THEN, load a new TL file to save the changes. (Save the old listings, just in
    case they change their minds.)

    Make sure....

You have stated shipping and handling of at LEAST "one variety."

You remove ANY reference to "paper payments." Make NO reference to
any non-PP payment method. (If you try to get cute here, they will
    remove the listings.)

If you offer returns, check the return box and explain. (If you do NOT
offer returns, you will have to wait for the "no returns" box to be
rolled out; maybe next month....maybe not.)

While you're in there, remove all of your email-addys and/or contact info.
(If you have SKYPE, you can leave it hooked to the listing.)

    ...........

It is worth talking to your PS-rep to get her feel for the "deadlines."
(She won't know, but it will make you feel better and less pressed.)

    .............

Also, since the "35-cents for 30-days" in CORE is almost here, you
might consider NOT relisting items that are ending in the store. Just
let them go to unsold and relist many of them to CORE.

I suspect that before 20 September, that scheme will be on "go."

    .........

Stores are going to be REALLY invisible, by next month. Still a nice
warehouse, but traffic will likely be thin. (google-base and the store-
    connector will help some.)
