BGS vs. BVG

I dont know if it has been discussed before, but does a BVG graded card bring in the same value as a BGS graded card ?

Don't know how you can truly compare them, since you rarely, if ever, see a 1980 or older card in a BGS holder. If you find a 1980 or older card in a BGS holder, as opposed to a BVG holder, I would say it will sell for more. Their BVG services are less stringent than they were at the start up of Beckett grading services, when the standards were the same for modern and vintage.

I raised the question, as I really want to upgrade some of my Gretzky cards, and there are (2) 1980 O Pee Chee BVG cards available on ebay. I really wanted to know how they (BVG) compare to BGS. Also, how old lables compare to new labels. I was under the impression that all grading companies graded tougher in the beginning

Anybody know the current value of Gretzky OPC 1980 - 81 values ? (GBS 9.5 & BVG 9.5)

Again, BGS and BVG for that matter, were more strict in the beginning. But......... as always, buy the card, not just the holder.

As far as value in the comparison spectrum, something is only worth what someone will pay. Personally, I have paid a little more for some great looking cards in the old BGS labels. I have had pretty good luck with some of them bumping up in grade.
