World Gold - Italy, Kingdom of Napoleon and Italy, Sardinia

*** Second coin added in post #4 of this thread ***
So, check out the original images that I used when buying the coin. All I could tell is that it looked like it had some sort of original skin...or had been dipped in orange shellac. I was hoping for the former.

I did fret a little bit...did I just buy a coin dipped in shellac? I suspected that these are in fact dark, poorly lit photos where the photographer ran the contrast slider way, way up.
So, it arrived today. I am happy. There are my photos:
I tried to enhance what luster remains in this coin. By doing so, there are a few places on the obverse of the coin which are darker than they ought to be.
The color looks pretty natural in my images. I don't think it has been dipped, which was my original goal of buying such a 'colorful' looking coin.

1812M Italy - Kingdom of Napoleon 40 Lire. 12.9030g. 26mm. Mintage 56,000. Minted in Milan. NGC XF-45.
Although I did some other buying around my birthday...this is the one I consider my 'birthday present'.
I will never be able to afford US gold of this date. There were no Eagles minted in 1812. There were Half Eagles, but those are rather expensive things.
This coin has lots of original character. Also, the coins of this time from France have a much less intricate reverse. I like the shield design of the 'Italy Napoleon' coins.
I used fairly non-diffuse lighting to try to enhance the luster of this coin. Under more diffuse lighting, the surface looks so much smoother.
I love this surface for a "45". Very pretty to me. I, of course, know NOTHING about technical grading of a coin like this. It's mostly emotional. But it does look like the devices are basically intact, with wear on the high points.
Let me say it again...I really like world gold!

My images...
1834 Italy - Sardinia 20 Lire. Mintage 261,000. NGC VF-20. 6.5416g. 21.2mm. 0.1867 oz of fine gold.
I think it looks a little bit like a young Bill Clinton.
It looks good to me for a mere 'VF-20' grade. I do like the patina.
