Boxing Program Help

I have a program and ticket from the 1937 Joe Louis/James Braddock fight where Louis won the heavyweight title at Comiskey Park in Chicago. My grandfather worked for the Chicago Daily News and attended the fight. The program has no creases, it was in a box that my dad found. The staples have some surface rust but other than that it is in great shape. Anybody have any idea what it may be worth?

  • There are quite a few good boxing web sites.

There is also several quality price guides for sports memorabilia (try amazon.com)

    good luck
  • Sounds like a cool piece of memorabilia. Too bad you couldn't have found it right before the movie "Cinderella Man" was released.

Actually that is what made my Dad think of it was the movie. He called me up and said that he remembered seeing the program as a kid and after searching some boxes, he found it. It was inside a scrapbook so it remained flat for all those years.
  • My brother sold his program in 2005, without a ticket stub, for $350 to an avid boxing memorabilia collector.

Not sure if his had any rusted staples, but it was a beauty.

A ticket stub recently sold on eBay for $82.

I'd definitely get a few more weighted opinions before eBaying it.

    Good luck,

There is a boxing section on Net 54 where folks will be able to give you a good estimate there. If you have a scan, it'll be best to get the best estimate possible.
