TYPE COLLECTORS

I am quite happy with my current collection. Besides a few very expensive cards, I think I have just about every card I want in my collection.
I am content with my vintage, my hof autos, my reprint autos, my psa/dna, my current rookies, my player collection, my oddball collection, and my GU.
One last collection I think I wish to add is a "type collection" where I get one card from every type of card (preferable a HOF) from 1886 to 1960.
Are there any other "type collectors" out there? Does someone have a list? What kind of roadblocks or difficult "types" are out there? If they are difficult, you may want to share, as you may be searching still (LOL) ....
Anyway, any advice??

One way to go about it is to aim for 1 card of every hall of famer, with each one being from a different set.
Some of them will still be tough, but you may be able to rationalize some of the tougher players (like 19th Century or Negro Leaguers) with tribute sets like '50-'56 Callahan, '60-'62 Fleer, the Fleer Old Time Negro Leaguer sets of the '70's, and Perez Steele sets. Otherwise you'll be facing a fortune on Cuban and 19th Century issues.
One of my favorite HOF type sets is Mark Tylicki's (Rusty Willy on this board). Not only is he working on a type set of HOFers, but he's made it even tougher by only going after portrait images of HOFers.
His set can be seen Here
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
<< <i>There are a ton of difficult type cards out there. Many of the 19th Century HOFers will kill you cost wise, and there are some really tough ones in 20th Century cards.

Thanks for sharing...that is a stunning collection. I am hoping someone has a list of the different types by chronological year, that I can cut and paste.
I did find this link which helps some, but am still looking for something better.

The other thing I do is collect modern crud cards but ones that have a the same perspective in terms of photo. For instance, I'm trying to find cards that sequentially depict a swing or a pitch so if you flipped through them, it would be like a little movie. It's tough but fun.

At the top you'll find different types of cards. Click on the links to see them. Best of luck! It's not easy, but it is fun.
The biggest type card collector is the monitor of Net54 (Leon Luckey) and even he knows he will never be 100% complete (he does have 1 of the 2 known T231 cards though).
I am a type collector myself, but needed to sell many of the rarer types I once owned. I specialize in rare unknown/uncataloged cards, and they are always the cards that make collecting fun to me.
Anyone can buy a 1933 R319 Goudey Ruth or 1952 Topps Mantle, they are extremely common,..... but not many can or will ever own a D303-2, T217, E222, R314D, etc.
Good luck, type collecting is fun and very interesting and within a few years you will know more overall about vintage cards than 99% of the other collectors.
