Just finished a TOUGH modern autograph set, with scans

Just found a card that I've been searching for. I know most on this forum dont really collect modern stuff, but here's what I think is a great example of a modern autographed insert set. I just found the last card I need for the 2007 Topps 52 Rookies Auto set. Go ahead and laugh, but I paid $22 and change for a Jared Burton card (who????) There hasn't been one available on ebay for about 9 months, and I only remember 2 or 3 coming up since the product launched last November. One popped up on the Beckett Marketplace (from Diamond Jim's, near Pittsburgh) earlier this weekend. Just saw it and snagged it. If it were listed, it might sell for $2, or it might get $100. I don't really care - it's just nice to have this set done. Burton is one of the tough cards from Group B, and along with the Group A Gary Sheffield auto that I won yesterday, that makes the Blue Auto set complete. I'm still working on the red autos and the dual autograph set, but I don't really expect to ever finish those. For those of you who want to know more about this set, feel free to reference my previous thread on the subject. I'll add the 2 more scans when the cards arrive, but for now, here's what's sitting on my desk (among a few other things.)

Thanks for looking, and man am I happy I found that Jared Burton card!

I can respect this. I like modern achievable auto sets. I'm still trying to finish 99-00 Retro Inkredible basketball but the Russell and Chamberlain are hard to find and cost prohibitive. Congratulations!
  • Nice. If you had to pick a top three favs. from the blue set, which would it be?
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Nice pickup - I have been working on a 2002 score select rookies and prospects set 99 cards all auto avail in retail 20 dollar junk wax boxes. I am about 2/3 of the way done and by the time I finish most will be retired LOL PS I have a no auto auto card of Zamora and if I ever sell my error cards I will keep ya in mind, if you haven't sold the set by then. • CONGRATS INDEED....i know how tough it can be...I have started and stopped a few sets out of discouragement.

I would have really loved to put together the 2001 TOPPS ARCHIVES AUTOS, but after years of searching, the bigger ones NEVER show up...

    Congratulations Jeff!

I think it's great - if I didn't have the next 2 yrs planned, I would do something like that - it's fun to complete something like that.

I wouldn't mind doing something like that with a Heritage set - now that might get expensive!

Thanx for sharing - where now?

  • Congrats Mudflap. I'm doing all the SP and SP Authentic autograph sets (Players Ink, Sign of the Times, Mark of Legend, Scripts for Success, etc). It's a great feeling when you can complete those sets. They don't get the respect of vintage sets, but in many ways are harder to finish. Some sets don't even have an example of some of the cards that are in the checklist. Than it becomes a hassle to get Upper Deck to acknowledge the card doesn't exist and than getting PSA to remove it.
Congrats again and good luck on your quest.

How funny is it that the Joba books 250 and the Lincecum only 60. Probably should be the other way around. Some of these are so rare beckett doesn't even
    list them! Congrats!
