In all honestly, the maelstrom of circulating coinage designs in recent years is something I've star

I'll admit that I was bitter about all the different designs and variations of circulating coinage the mint has issued lately. However, it's actually started to become sorta fun. You get a pocketful worth of change and have a bunch of different varieties of nickels, quarters, dollars (if you actually get them in change), and soon to be cents!

It was nice for a while but too much to focus on for collecting. At least for folks like me that have a limited amount of time to hunt.

That said, avoiding the hunt I am enjoying getting the mint and proof sets for my Dansco Album's. A little variety is fun.

I'm even crankier now that I have learned about the Civil Rights quarters that will be tumbling out of the mint for eight years. Coins are going the way of stamps.

One problem with the rapid fire design changes from a numismatic perspective is that there is no time to really get to know a design. I really like learning about the changes in a single design over the years, especially as they relate to problems in production. I like to learn about the differences in quality of strike from year to year, from mint to mint, about which areas of the design tend not to strike so well in some years but better in other years. When there is a new design every few months there is no way to develop a more intimate knowledge of a particular series. The design doesn't go through any process of development or eveolution over the years. They just crank one out for a few weeks or months and then it's over. I find it numismatically unsatisfying.
