Auction collusion: What are your thoughts?

    Interesting thread.
    Like many "laws" in this country of ours, it could have started with the greatest of intentions but then so many "gray" areas are possible that it isn't a great law anymore.
    It likely started out with many business type folks and not the "every day man". Things change, laws don't always, and now there are just too many split ends with it. Most likely why it is seldom prosecuted.

    Many responses to this thread have pointed out a lot of the issues around this law.

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I think its important to point out this doesn't happen often or at least, its not an effective strategy very often. It is probably more likely to happen in smaller auctions where the participation level is low or on coins that are more esoteric (thinly traded) or in an area dominated by only one or two big buyers. But I would never worry about it happening in any popular series in a Heritage or B&M auction becasue there are just too many people bidding for collusion to be effective.
