If the JohnnyComeLatelys Pull Out?

S Blay and others have mentioned big money buyers coming into a series strong just to get out in a couple of years. With traditional assets like Real Estate and Stocks being slow is this investment money trying to find a home? What happens if the sky doesn't fall, and money migrates back into the traditional markets, will the coin market finally cool down? Has the last of the "baby boomers" found this new hobby?
This cycle has continued to strengthen across almost all series and grade ranges of coins. The cyclical nature of any up market usually carries to an extreme near the end...then suddenly goes POOF. A short cycle will last 2-3 years and a longer cycle will go 6-8 years, and this current coin market has been upticking across most all series and grades for about 8 years now. Are we seeing the high water blow off or is there plenty more money out there to keep chasing these coins to the moon?

  • Well, one factor is as the population increases there is a good chance the collector base also increases. The number of classic coins available, however, is a fixed number. Therefore the increased competition for this fixed number of coins naturally results in higher prices realized.

This doesn't explain a meteoric rise, but supports steady growth.

thinking about such things can taint the enjoyment coins behold

i'd like to think as i've developed into a finer taste in coins that it is safe to spend what i do

reguardless of factors you convey here i found a passage by curly to cover your ass-ets

buy them coins that when people see them they ask..."is that for sale or do you want to sell it now" and they add a lil joy to behold them

chances are...my matte proof lincolns...they will survive...after supplying me with years of smiles
everything in life is but merely on loan to us by our appreciation....lose your appreciation and see

Much of the bread and butter coins of typical booms (silver, nickel, copper type, Morgans, Barbers, Commems for example) have been late to the party because registry set fever, US Mint promotions, etc kept attention elsewhere. Those areas above were quite slow from 2004 to 2007. Their party only just began in late 2007.
