American medals honoring Martin Luther (not MLK)

The local dealer recently bought a group of American medals honoring Martin Luther. There are a LOT of German medals in his honor, which isn't terribly surprising. American versions seem rarer. While I've seen a few of these, most of them look totally unfamiliar to me, and I can't figure even where to look for more info.

Sorry for the poor pics, but there's a limit to what I could do with a handheld camera and poor lighting.

Does anyone know anything about these pieces?

I've noticed many on ebay lately, even purchased one myself just because I liked the looks
