Seller uses Auctiva to process paypal payment

derrybderryb Posts: 37,522 ✭✭✭✭✭
During ebay's paypal payment steps I was re-directed to seller's Auctiva payment processing site where i was directed to login to my paypal account. Ain't gonna happen. I can't believe Ebay allows third party sites to do this. Sure looks like a good way to compromise your paypal account. Requested seller send an invoice through ebay or paypal systems. Anybody run into this? It's a first for me.

Many sellers do it that way, it's ok.

Agreed, it makes you break a safe rule but it is ok. LOL

Never had a problem. I have done it dozen of times as a buyer. I use Auctiva for my auctions too, though I do not use their checkout.

I have no way of knowing that I am at a safe site. A smart scammer could easily use this method to capture my paypal password. Ain't gonna happen. I have no problem with logging into paypal from an ebay site. My cool ebay tool bar shows me that I am at an actual ebay site.

If I, as a seller, was gonna use a third part payment site to collect a paypal payment I feel I should at least mention that in my auction.

I think you can still log drectly into your paypal then enter the ebay item number and send the payment then in ebay if it does not show as paid already you can mark it as paid. You might reply to the invoice and say you paid directly with paypal.

But sending a payment directly through paypal without going through the normal checkout procedure may void the buyer protection.

I never follow those, I just log straight into PayPal to make the payment.

Not true because you are using the item number, it's still tied to e-bay.

Pay-pal offers this feature to sellers that want a more professional look. I do something similar to make the checkout page look similar to my website. Although I don't do anything for e-bay as your seller is doing.

I use the Auctiva only to list, I do not use any of the extra checkout, mailings, insurance, options etc etc. It bugs me when redirected during a checkout, so I do not want to bug my buyers either.

Thanks for thinking of the buyer, more should!!!!

And I will agree it bugs the heck out of me when a seller wants me to jump through hoops to pay them.

Normally PayPal direct bypasses there junk.

I think the Auctiva checkout is safe, but usually is a PITA compared with the standard eBay checkout.

Does going through Auctiva prevent the payer from using discount coupons and things like that?
