Basically, the U in UNITED does not have a serif from 1986 - 2007. In 2008 they added a serif. Actually they changed the entire font both Obverse and Reverse.
This resulted in a different U and the little tilde between SILVER and ONE on the reverse is different.

The 13 stars are larger on the 08 reverse as well.
