I have never seen one before, but the shop I bought it from made it seem like they are common.

Fairly common when I collected Mexican. Called the "Cinco de Mayo" and it was struck in other medals, such as copper and gold.3Mark
I'm traveling on memory and running out of fuel.
  • Maybe I am mistaken but I thought the ones I had seen said just that.........Cinco de Mayo....... not "5".....I also can not remember that particular horseman.
    ...
I am just going on memory, I have never collected them

I have seen this example before on eBay. I think it a one of a series of issue commemorating the Mexican Independence movement. Yours looks much nicer. There is a seller, whose handle I forget, that's either selling the same piece over and over or has a hoard of them. He also sells a 1960 commem of the "St Patrick Brigade" along with a few others.
