Got a new auto project, Ryan vs. Ventura
Just picked this photo up on ebay. Does anyone know if Ventura will willingly sign this photo at paid signings? He has a signing coming up in September. If I find out he won't, then I'm going to try and trick him. I'll send this signed photo to the signing, but I will have it matted with another Ventura picture on top, and an opening in the mat with the light portion of this signed Ryan photo behind the mat opening. I will instruct Ventura to sign in the mat opening, and thus, he will be signing my Ryan photo without knowing it by signing in the mat opening. I think it would be a neat piece to have signed by them both, but don't know Ventura's willingness.
For years, this was the only way to get Gerald Ford to sign copies of his controversial pardon of Nixon as well. You had to trick him by placing it behind the mat opening and then he'd sign it.
Here it is with Ryan and hopefully in a month and a half or so, I'll be posting it with Ventura's sig as well.

<< <i>That doesn't sound ethical to me. Are you suggesting that you are going to "trick" Ventura into signing the photo? I do not agree with that. I am sure you don't care what I think but you are "crossing the line" in my opinion. I would be upfront with him and see what happens. >>
If I had the opportunity to meet him in person, I'd just ask him to sign it, but I don't have that luxury. The signing is up north, and I'm in Texas. I've asked the promoter to find out in advance if he'll sign them. For years, a lot of boxers have been willing to sign pictures of themselves from fights they lost or getting knocked out in big fights, so personally, I feel he should be man enough to sign them, since he thought he was man enough to charge "Big Tex", but if he won't, I will try my route.
I don't see it being an ethical dilemma and I don't feel it's crossing the line, so we'll just agree to disagree. And I do care what you think, or I wouldn't have posted it on a message board where I should expect to hear opinions, sometimes differing, but I don't personally find anything wrong with it.
Take care,
Mike
I've been told in no uncertain terms that he will not sign them. Nolan on the other hand loves to. I hope I'm wrong about that, if so, I'll have to do similar.

That we will. I appreciate your forthrightness, Mike. I like to read about your many projects and wish you continued luck. I hope he signs it for you (though I have my doubts that he will). On a side note, I grew up in Oklahoma around the time Ventura was at OSU. From all I have heard about him, he seems to be a really nice guy. I wonder if he and Nolan have ever discussed the incident?
edited for my own quoting incompetence.

Bobby,
I went to a Ryan Q&A back in March and this is what he said about the Ventura incident, so I don't believe they have ever discussed it between them:
Nolan was asked what he was thinking during the Robin Ventura incident, Nolan said that he really didn't have time to think, that he just went on reaction, and that he was really surprised that Robin charged him. Said that he and Ventura had never had a problem in the past, and that they never faced each other again after that game and that they haven't bumped into each other since then either.
Take care,
Mike
<< <i>While you're at it, why dont you just trick Ventura into signing a Power of Attorney letter giving you all of his assets? That'll be awesome to post on the board!! >>
I have no interest in having his ass-ets, I'll let someone else do that. i don't switch hit.

This is like a bad 70's sitcom.....I'm all for it.
Do it.

This is true, while Ryan obviously will sign it, Ventura absolutely will not.......I remember back when people used to 'trick' DiMaggio into signing pieces he normally wouldn't, but I think it would be cool if you could pull it off....

<< <i>What did they trick Joe D into signing? Marilyn Monroe panties? JFK, Monroe, Joe D triple autos? >>
after paying 100$ for him to sign flats, he decided that he wouldn't sign anything with any other players picture or sig on it. Only Single photos, and single signatures
