Is (was) the coloring of Cash coins common?

I have this coin. Looks enameled or something. Common practice?

You'll often find Korean cash painted, such as the one you have there. Cash coins were often painted and tied together to form a larger charm. The one you have there was once part of such a charm. Sometimes you'll find Korean cash coins with holes drilled along the rim as well so they could be tied together into a charm. I'll try to find some pictures.

I wanted to get a pick with red and blue painted coins in a charm/talisman array but couldn't find one.
