I'm not really sure what the going rate is, but I paid $425 for mine; I suspect I overpaid a bit. I would guess somewhere around the $300-$350 mark is probably a good price.

For context, When I sold a PSA 8 on eBay it went for $140.

    Hope this helps!
  • thanks tmmoose. very helpful. do we know who has the PSA 10 Alpha Shivan?

Dan graded it, but said he sold for $4,000 to one of his mysterious international collectors. :-)

    Hey Will,

I concur with Michael that a nice PSA 9 Shivan would also fall into the $300-$350 range. I'd ask for a good scan of the card first to make sure that is is reasonably well centered as that can be a tough one.
  • Hey Michael,

Aren't you a mysterious international collector image

    .... sorry, couldn't resist image

I paid $150 raw for my PSA 9 Alpha Shivan, so maybe with a good scan you could try the submitting route? Not as easy today as it was 3 years ago, I'll admit, but you might get lucky image

do you think it is not as easy as three years ago because of the scarity of high grade cards, or because PSA is stricter with their grading?

  • Hey Will,

Definitely the former. I think PSA has stayed pretty consistant in their grading of MtG cards over the years, although some of the really early ones (with the holograms on the back) do seem a little overgraded, IMHO. On the other hand, finding nice cards to submit has gotten tougher, at least for me anyway.

Ebay remains a crapshoot - no better or worse than in days past; dealers, on the other hand, are much tougher to get mint cards from. Years ago many of them not only had mint cards but would actually go through their stock and fish out the best for you, no charge (they just wanted a sale). Now they either submit them themselves (D&A, StarCity), sell at a premium equal to graded (ABU, T&T), or simply don't have any (most dealers). In addition, you have more people scouring for nice cards to submit, driving down the number available while driving up the price. Finally, players seem to be putting more of a premium on truely mint cards than they used to, which also makes them tougher to get.

Don't get me wrong, nice cards are still out there... you just have to look harder image

thanks for the insights. very helpful. i've been opening alpha starters and sending in directly to PSA. i've had good luck until my last submission. all cards (i sent 35) came directly from starter to card saver. i thought they looked to be some of the best i've had. they all came back 9's. a little frustrating.

on another note... does anyone have an Edgar pack they would consider parting with? sell or trade? hope all is well.
