1986 Baseball Cards

I just recevied some 1986 Fleer and Donruss cards from sport lots. Could they have made the 86 Donruss cards on any cheaper card stock? I collected them as a kid, but do not remember them being so thin and light compared to other cards. They are also very condition sensitive.

The 86 Fleer are great looking cards, but they are condition sensitive too. I think 1986 had to be the most condition sensitive year of the 80's with Topps black bordes, 86 Donruss cheap card stock and the 86 Fleer blue borders. I also received some 85 Donruss and they are certainly better quality than 86.

I've had a few 1986 Donruss come back as not meeting the size requirements (from PSA). They were straight from packs. I stay away from mid-80's Donruss.

Donruss' stock from 1981-91 has always been quite thin (especially 1981). Fleer cards feel more "sturdy" starting in the mid-1980s as well.

86 Donruss can put you in a trance if stared at too long.

Was never a fan of 86 Donruss, look like the cards were crooked/tilted with that design.

Ive always liked the 86 sets. You're absolutely right, all 3 sets are extremely condition sensitive. There's just not a damn thing in them worth having anymore. 86 Donruss Canseco was the hottest card in the world back in the day. God, what if PSA had been around in 1988? What would a GEM MT 10 1986 Donruss Canseco have gone for during the 88 playoffs?

I have mentioned this before, but I remember trading an 86 Donruss Canseco for half a box of unopened 86 D packs when the card was selling for $100. Pulled two Cansecos and thought I had won the lottery. For those that weren't collecting then, in 1990 and 1991 the Cecil Fielder rookie from 86 D was always on or close to the top of the Beckett Hot List.

I loved 1986 Fleer Cards, 84 and 86 Fleer were great looking sets in my opinion. 86 Donruss not a fan of at all.
    Looking for FB HOF Rookies
  • I always thought they looked a lot like a tv show I watched maybe once or twice....I think it was called something like "Max Headroom" or something like that.
