New Poster asks Opinion on Transaction

Hello. I have been following the board for along time, but never posted. This is my first post. I wanted to get your opinion on this transaction. On Aug 15, I won this auction for a 1965 Mantle (see link below). The card looked pretty good in the scan. The seller is Johnboy9356.
He does not take paypal. Right after the postman picked up the money order I mailed to the seller, I found this completed ebay auction that closed on Aug 3 (see link below). As you can see Johnboy9356 had won the same card he sold to me on the 15th except that the card was listed as EX with four EX corners. I did notify Ebay and he did eventually respond to my email and we did a mutually agreed not to complete transaction. He said he is going to mail the money order back but I have already canceled payment. Anyway, I just wanted to offer this information if anyone was interested in buying from this seller in the future. I know people resale on Ebay but sometimes it is good to know what you are really buying. Always enjoy reading this board every day. Robert

But yeah, what exactly did the seller do wrong on this deal? He has scans of both the front and back of the card. He also discloses in his description that the corners show wear and it's obvious from the scans they do. I don't get your post to be quite honest.
The seller bought the Mantle on 8/3 and decided to flip it for a small profit a few days later. Seems reasonable.

<< <i>Hello. I have been following the board for along time, but never posted. This is my first post. I wanted to get your opinion on this transaction. >>
I'm not sure of the question. From my initial look at the transaction, it looks like for some reason you asked to back out of your commitment to buy it, and he graciously complied.
I must be missing something obvious.

Well, the guy did not make much for his attempted flip.
Usually, it is good to avoid titles that say "NICE," when
the seller does not take PayPal.
He will likely return your MO.
No NEG is required. I would leave a POS, or none.
Raw seems to create many problems - don't see too many happy raw Mantle buyers.
That said, welcome to the boards.
Count me as another who thinks seller #2 did nothing wrong. No lies, no overgrading, minimal fluff, decent photo, etc. I think you actually got it for a fair price - SMR for a 5 is $165, for a 6 is $285. Looks like either a nicely centered 5 or a 5.5 - either of which would sell for more than the average 5.

Poor=Nice Eye Appeal
Fair=Awesome Card!
Good=Super Card
EX= Nice!
Nr-Mt=Tough Card!
Mint= WOW!
Gem Mint = Wow! Wow!
So in translation he was really only saying EX Condition, he just spoke ebay better than the buyer he was getting it from originally
Good rule of thumb: Never buy a raw card without using a credit card. You're lucky this seller let you back out.
Of course, this rule of thumb will expire in late October when the new eBay payment structure changes.
Also, when sellers say "judge for yourself", I always pass. If the seller can't describe it accurately with it in hand, how are you going to with a picture? (I'd rather the seller say, "please ask questions before bidding" if he's not sure.)
I agree that you probably could get that card already graded for the money you were willing to pay.
Hope you find one!

I am in agreement with the others who thinks the 2nd seller did nothing wrong, he described the corners all having wear sounds like ex to me. Seems to me you had buyer remorse or should just stick to graded cards next time.
Buying raw can be tough but from my experience when the card is 2+ grades off whats described then you have a problem and need a refund.
Actually the seller did state the card was ex.
"""It is a excellent looking card and it would make a nice addition to anyones collection."""
I think you saw he was making a few bucks on the flip and did not appreciate that.
IMO this seller did nothing wrong.

<< <i>although I do side with me >>
Welcome to the boards RT.
My opinion? I wouldn't buy raw from anyone with that kind of FB.
Glad it worked out.
Just curious, why were you looking at old auctions?
On the "side" issue? I usually side "with me" also.

I would guess that more than 90% of ebay mantle cards are not one-owner cards. People buy and sell them all the time, and there's nothing wrong with what he's doing. I have a problem with the guys who buy good looking 4s and 5s, break them out and list them as nm/mt raw and the guys who photoshop their scans to make the card look brighter and nicer than it is.
I agree about leaving him a positive feedback. He let you out of a deal and didn't have to.
the seller did nothing wrong.
how exactly did you cancel the money order?
Personally I wouldnt have bid on the item because of the Crappy DSR ratings for the seller, pathetic shipping time and cost.
