Wow a federal lie.You're kidding.

Well I guess that it is expected.Another government buissness put a lie in writing.I was supposed to get a money order by express mail on friday.I was home all day on friday and it never came.I contacted the buyer and he gave me the express id number to check it on the internet. They confirmaed that the express mail was delivered at 10:48 am,with waiver of signature was used.I said "no way,I was right here".I went to the post office in the morning and talked to the supervisor. She took the printout that I copied off the internet to the back. She returned a few minutes later and said that the express mail was delivered on friday at 10:48.I said no that it was not,I was home. She replied'sir, the carrier only scans something when he delivers it.So I am sorry but yes it was. After a heated argument, she took my name, address, and phone number and said that the driver was off today and would be in on monday. After a long weekend,I returned home monday to see,low and behold my express mail envelope in my mail box. When I got inside I noticed my answering machine had a message. When I listened to it,it was the supervisor leaving a message saying that she was sorry and that they found the express envelope in the truck that was supposed to deliver it.I am not so much angry about not getting it.What I am angry about is the fact that they did not even come to my house and said that they did.I am wrong or isn't this falsifying government records which I believe is a felony.I know at my employer that if somebody falsifies company records then that person is terminated.Don't get me wrong,I am not trying to get anybody fired. But it made me look like a liar in front of the employees at the post office and to the buyer.Any comments on how far I should go are appreciated.

Show some kindness and some human compassion and let it go. You got your package, just move on. Not everything has to be retalliated. The clerk might have lost her husband or kid the day before, or just found out they had cancer, or something else. Or, they could have just been rude. Just chalk it up as your good deed of the day and let it go.

Nothing good can come of making a stink, step back, take a breath, let it go. The incident is frustrating but you'll feel much better for taking the high road.
  • Thanks everybody.I will just let it go.But,I will keep that message from that supervisor on my machine in case it ever happens again.

"Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to get anybody fired."

    I would be.

The carrier, apparently, falsified delivery info. He should be GONE.

You should advise the sender that he may be able to get his Express
Mail fees refunded, if the item did not meet its deadline.

  • I did contact the buyer last night and they told me that when he tried to get a refund today. They told him that it was delivered on friday and that he will not get a refund.

I think the sender it entitled to a full refund on the shipping as Express is guaranteed the carrier here screwed up and was caught not doing his job correctly. Being a postal employee it is doubtful anything will happen to the employee, but I think the USPS should have to eat the Express Mail costs.
  • Yeah, I agree, but they won't. They'll find some rule to make the situation play in their favor.
  • I agree.I told the buyer that if he needed an alibi,I had all the proof that he needed with the message machine. He said that it was too much of a pain to go any farther with.If it was me,16.50 is 16.50 .I would push it.

  • I'm not saying all postal workers are like this, but in two different places we have lived we've had problems. First, our Netflix would always arrive late and always be open. Secondly, in the other town we had comic book subscriptions and the packages would always be open and sealed in a post office plastic envelope and they also always looked like they had been read. At one point we didn't receive 3 months worth of our comic's. I complained and somehow they showed up 2 days later. Kinda weird if you ask me. Again, I'm not saying they are all like that. But one bad apple can make the whole operation seem pretty stinky if you ask me.
  • I honestly think that the dekivery person just wanted to cut the day short. But they should not have said that the job was done, when it wasn't.

  • All it should take is a phone call from your PO to the senders PO and the situation should be fixed.

I'd agree with those who say to let it go. You got your package in the end, that's the most important thing.

  • I would not let it go because it is things like this combined with Paypals seller protection that is causing buyers and sellers to get screwed. What if the item had never been delivered? This was a guaranteed service that was paid for. In recent weeks I have had 3 items sent with DC that was bought at the post office that still say "In Transit" yet the buyer acknowledges they recieved the item. If these buyers were dishonest they could tell Paypal they never recieved it and I would be SOL. This is becoming a larger problem and the only way to get it fixed is to push the issue.

In most cases, the USPS does a great job in delivering mail and getting the job done. However, like
any large corporation with many offices, some offices are just better managed and with better
    staff.

I do a lot of QA in my work and consistency is HARD to achieve especially over 1000s of offices.

  • The lack of QA is becoming more and more apparent and common with the USPS.

While I agree that 100% perfection is never a realistic possibility with the USPS, the problem is that there is obviously a problem and that they are going to ignore that particular problem until it swims up and bites them on the ***. Serioiusly, a handwritten complaint, acknowledging the problem, would be appropriate. In fact, the Postmaster of your post office may even would appreciate it, since there was no big problem, but may avert future problems.

While the USPS does have its faults, the service they provide, considering the volume of items that are processed in their facilities each day, is excellent, IMO. I've shipped and received thousands of packages in the mail, and have had maybe one or two not turn up. That's a pretty good track record, better than good, actually. I wonder if those who are complaining are perfect in what they do, on a daily basis...I'm sure the answer is no. And no, I don't work for the post office, either.

I have found that as long as my regular carrier is working there is not problems but the week or two he's on vacation all kinds of he** breaks loose. I've had 3rd notices of attempts to deliver show up saying the package is going to be returned to sender without any previous notifications. I've also luckily had a friend of mine who happens to work at the local post office ask where I've been since mail is being held there....and I'm not even on vacation or having a mail hold....

I have told my regular guy that he needs to not take vacations...and then have offered him a image luckily he has a great sense of humor.

I would go to that post office and demand a face to face apology from both the carrier who faslified the record and the
clerk who called you a lier.

YOU GOTTA STAND FOR SOMETHING, or your gonna fall for anything.

  • the last package i got from Nick (Nam) required sig. confirmation; it was left crammed in my mailbox, and the carrier signed for it himself. I checked online and it said that "package was signed for by L. Monteiro at 3pm etc"

It was the weekend and it wasnt my regular carrier, none of the regular guys would ever do it, but this weekend clown is a lazy douche.

I had a similiar situation happen recently w/ a $550 card. It was sent express mail and I was suppose to have received it on Tuesday. July 29. That evening I realized that I never rec'd the envelope and proceeded to check the delivery status online. Lo and behold, the item was listed as having been dlvd at 11:30 a.m that morning. I looked outside and couldn't find the envelope (nor did my wife see it...and she was home all day!). The next a.m. I called the postal supervisor and she insisted the envelope was dlvd the prevoius day at the indicated time. Since the seller waived signature confirmation, the driver could stuff the envelope in the mail box...which is what he claimed to have done. I started to panic because the envelope could have been stolen from my mail box and I would have been completely screwed..... Low and behold...my wife called me around 1 p.m. on Wednesday the 30th and the envelope mysteriously appeared in my mailbox... wtf... It was the goofiest mail fubar that I've ever experienced....

My experience is that if you waive the signature then the carrier doesn't even bother knocking at the door.

If you have something sent express then tell the seller 2 things -

1- tell the seller to put your phone number on the address label.
2- do not waive signature ever.

When I have express packages to deliver and there's a number, I call the number about 1/2 hour before I get to the house. You know it's coming, you can be ready for me and I don't have to go looking for you. I know you're home so I will pull in your driveway and deliver it.

On many routes we drive more or less in circles. There are routes where I am a block or 2 from a house and won't get to that house for 2 hours. If I have your number and you'll be home at 9 am but not at 11am I can get it delivered early and you get the package without having to drive to USPS.

Waiving the signature gives the appearance that the item isn't as valuable or important. You have to sign for insured over $200 but if it's under $200 no sig needed. Express is different, but the implication is there.

To the OP - what time do you normally get your mail?

Finally - if any mail carrier signs your name to a slip, he or she will lose their job. We're not allowed to do that EVER. If that happens, PM me and I'll get you a name and number to complain to.
