why is basketball the only event in the olympics with pro players and not baseball or any other event.

    MLB won't suspend their season to let the players participate.

    Baseball uses pro players, AA players mostly because the majors are still playing its season, In the winter the NHL players
    can be seen in Olympics.



    So the answer is Basketball is not in season and thus they can compete.
